A mate of mine told me some time ago that this soul guru is now driving trucks in the US for a living, how tragic that a talent like this should end up being a delivery man for a living, let's have a list of his great achievments, I would'nt know where to start

That's spooky. I was thinking about him the other day (as you do!). I was also thinking, has Robert Banks ever been involved in a bad record, or H.B. Barnum or Jerry Ragavoy? or Chips Moman, the list is (almost) endless. Isn't it?

Point is, he's a trucker now OK, but I wonder what todays automated production techniques would make of such an unparalled genius like him.

Does he know that we know?

I'd hope so!, surely someone like Ady Croasdell or Dave Moore would be the best bet, also you can add Wylie/Hestor to the above list

Tell you what would be a cracking idea. Kent do a "Dave Hamilton" job on Mike, gotta be worth a double CD or a three volume set. I'd be bloody near the front of the queue to buy that, even if I'd got a load already on vinyl/CD.

Add to list my own particular favorite, Jack Daniels (with or without Johnny Moore), purveyor(s) of the finest sounds that the Windy City has ever offered, bar none!

Mike was a long distance lorry driver for a short period in 1992 when he lived in Teaneck, New Jersey. He moved back to Detroit early in 1993 so that his wife, Liz, could be near her late mother. Despite a recent illness, he has been back in the studio with George Clinton and Pat Lewis, amongst others, doing what he does best.

Mr Wylie is still around in Detroit although sadly not in the best of health. Hopefully some can update us on his wellbeing as there are regular visitors through there from UK and US.

Tony Hestor is a quandry to me. Maybe someone on here knows where he is, if he's still around? Rob M? Dave T?

Mike Terry - Huge contribution to rare soul, not just Detroit but much more far reaching. He features in The Pied Piper Story created by Eddie Hubbard in the next Issue of There's That Beat! (Out on Tuesday!) We're also hoping to feature his personal story in Issue #4.

Dave

Sadly Tony Hestor, was shot coming out of a recording studio, back in the day. Popcorn, is all ways up and down with his health. He is on constant medication, so has good and bad days. He does get out on better days but his wieght means he has trouble with his hips amd knees. He has been working on some projects of late, which is good news. McKinley Jackson his old friend and production partner, along with Lamont Dozier in the Three Gemini's, is getting some work from time to time as well. Popcorn always speaks warmly of the people in the UK and always remembers his trips over here with great fondness.

Thanks guys. I'd heard the story of T Hestor being killed but never had it confirmed.

Dave T - Thanks for the update on Popcorn. Seems at one stage half the records played at our house had their illustrious names on them somewhere!

Hey Hey!

Mitre was Pat Allen and Ray. Had a few good scoops up there at the time.

The Circulation was on Oxford Road. Sean Caine and I started the nights there and then Ginger did the Allniters a few years later. If you're a local do you remember any of these....

Correct -Johnny Terry worked with Just Brothers, Jack Montgomery etc. Mike played on many of those same records but usually had writing credits with Jack Ashford. There is more detail about Johnny T. in the article about the Just Brothers.

cheers rob,

its uncanny, for years i went thinking so many brilliant tunes from mike, when some of them were from this new geezer[ no disresprect] jonny is obviously a genius an all.

Hi Lenny,

Rob did a great feature in the last issue of Theres That Beat! about the Just Brothers. He's done an equally great piece on the late great Emanuel Laskey in the upcoming Issue too.

Just read the MT interview from Dave R. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have touched the hem of God's garment.

All our lives would have been so much more different had Mike Terry not been gifted to us. Thank you Mike.

Couldn't agree more :D Mike Terry walks on water :shades: Jo

Mike Terry passed away in the early 70's.

Oh Dear!!

People should really stop and think before pressing the button when posting about people passing. If you can't corroborate the info then please don't post. Many soulsters check the forums every now and then.

Dave
