Just stepped out of a cave!

Well I have now been back in the UK for a good six months now after spending the last eleven years in Germany whilst serving with the Army.

I have tried my utmost to keep a breast of the scene with the internet and the German scooter runs n Nighters but enjoy them as much as I did I know I have missed out on some major musical discoveries.

On my visits back I was lucky, or unlucky depending on your taste, to sample the likes of The four vandals, Larry Tinder and The Phonetics just a Boys Dream.

I listened to a live link up on the net as radio 2 burst out wake up to the sunshine girl and watched in amusement as the "chicken" adverts bought the scene closer to Joe public.

Since getting back to blighty I have sampled Drax, Eggborough, The Blackpool soul weekender, Earl of Doncaster, Winford civic, Frobisher's and the usual smattering of soul Nights.

I have been amazed at the sheer volume of new stuff out here! Just managed to get "Tribute to Betty tonight" thanks Bazza, I do feel as if stumbling out of a cave and its freaking brilliant. Before I would have to travel down to The 100 Club to have my Northernsoul batteries recharged but now I am a northernsoul sprogg once more, hope it lasts a fair while but I would dearly love to know where the best places are to hear the new stuff??

Not just Modern stuff but the dusted off and or rediscovered rare soul gems that have made you all go "ooooohhhh" or even "Aaaarrrgh" for the last few years.

The 100 club was the place for all that. But as it was the 6TS crew rather than the bricks and mortar, I am thinking the first night at the New Venue on March 10th may well become a seminal night in the hallowed hall of Northern Soul fame.

Seriously though most of the good nights and nighters seem to be happening in the Smoke at the moment.

Not taking sides, just going on what I've been reading!

See you down there sometime as I make regular trips to London and it's about time I checked out a soul do there instead of reggae all the time.

Regards

If you want a venue that offers you a chance to hear rare soul played out for the first time plus unknown's and modern the "Life line niters" are the place to go

You'll be guaranteed a few "oooohhhh" n "aarrrghh's" - certainly worth giving it a try imo, I'm a dancer, collector and love chatting soul all night - the Lifeline events have all the right ingredients - just had the 2nd Lifeline weekender and what a fantastic event that was - check out the thread in Event lookbacks - Niters on bi-monthly next one April. The place to go to hear the countries top dj's all under one roof thumbsup.gif

Forgot the name you used in chat mate, but I know you're the Rasta bloke

How's things? I miss the chats....

Myself, well I had a bad health scare last year - clogged arteries and stuff, had an op and doing reasonably okay now. Just getting back into the soul thing (well I've still been listening to my tunes) and hope to be out somewhere soon.

Getting back on the subject, anywhere that Andy Dyson's DJing at these days is well worth the admission money too.

Get yourself over to the Burnley Niters, always hear something different to the top 500 oldies, all on original vinyl too!

Next one Friday 30th March

Come and say hello
