Alright Trev.... trust you are OK.

A tongue in cheek guess would be the original Frank Wilson..... I mean the acetates and boots were two a penny but were on the decks week in week out LOL

I never went to the casino (before my time) but surely to god any of the shrine output wasn’t discovered or played there? And if it did, want chance would it have had against class tunes as joe 90? 😂

Ha, ha … yes, the worst excesses do seem to put a dark shadow over a lot of the great records played.

Richard Searling had Eddie Daye covered up (as Frank Wilson, no less).

I believe the D.C. Blossoms may have been spun at the Mecca. The first Shrine to get a public airing, I think.

Also, I have a late ‘70s Soul Bowl list with the Cautions ‘No Other Way’ at a huge (for the time) £60; plus, a Manship tape of current ‘biggies’ with Les Chansonettes on it, from the same period.

Different styles became more acceptable later on. But, apart from that, any really great discoveries after Wigan closed are of course more likely to be rarer, and hence more expensive.

On a tangent but simply interested, were there any rare tunes that were exclusive to Yate, Cleethorpes or the Mecca?

I agree partly, but these dj's were doing lots of different venues at the time, so no sound is exclusive to a particular venue. Richard Searling had "When He's Not Around" by Rose Valentine & the Sisters Three (Little Ann Bridgeforth) which was virtually a Wigan Casino exclusive for years, but he did play it at every other venue he did a dj spot as well!

Yes. From 77 to 79 apart from a few of Richard's spins all the top newies seemed to be being broken at St Ives, Cleggy and Yate. In 76 Cleggy was deffo way ahead of all the others. Can't comment on The Mecca as I never went but have been told that a lot of spins later big at other venues were first played there.

IMO of course

I think both venues in Cleethorpes were finished as allnighers by November 1976. Just alldayers and soul nights after that. The authorities wanted it stopped as an allnighter.

Sorry it was November 1976 the allnighters finished. They had started in Feb 75. The Alldayers started 19th Dec 1976.

Not an overly expensive record but how about The Fourmyula - I Dig Your Act , I'm pretty sure this was a Rob Smith exclusive that he regularly played at Notts Palais in the late Seventies but I don't recall ever hearing it played at Wigan.

Thankfully I don't recall hearing it anywhere until just now ... and of that I'm eternally grateful ...

Now off to find something to erase the memory of ever hearing it at all ... :)

That is Correct, Mary Chapman carried on Promoting All - Dayers  for years after that and in Latter Years other Promoters got in on the act and put All-dayers on as well.

Was Ray Pollard 'This Time' a late Casino spin?

Certainly well known when I got into things in '83.

I went 75-81 Casino last 6 every weekend till it closed - don’t remember it being played however too many pills/powder could be to blame - just doesn’t sound like a Casino sound 🤔
