Charnessa & Charmettes – Personal woman / I can feel my love coming down – Atco 6836 M- £250 (Great funk edged sister soul, Sam Dees penned, recorded at Sound of Birmingham Studios, Alabama, well under the radar, a rarer Atco release indeed, minor edge lift, plays fine) Dorothy Williams - The wells gone dry - Bandstand USA 1005 WD M- £225 (Catchy dancer on the local release before Goldwax, hard to find demo and spotless) Intensions - I love you - Blue Light 261 M- £250 (Up-tempo dancer on a small Chicago label, with the Intensions the prominent band in 5 releases. Minor edge lift) Lou Rawls - Dead end street - Capitol 5869 M- £25 (Man, just listen to that spoken intro, what a storyline) Dee Edwards - (I can) deal with that - De-To 2285 M- £275 (Alabama born Detroit soul songstress serves up a beauty) Bronzettes - (Beggin’) baby please don’t go / Moments - Double Soul 108 M- £60 (Chicagoan quartet deliver 2 pleasing sides. Minor edge lift does not affect play) Willie Hutch – Love runs out / The duck – Dunhill 4012 WD Vg £1600 (Awesome tunes, bang on Northern, probably right up here as one of the top must have 2 siders. Ideal for DJ-ing. Plays better than it looks, just a few light pops. Price reflects condition) Lorraine Rudolph - Keep coming back for me - Jet Stream 817 M- £150 (A 45 that’s gaining some traction, gritty femme belter) Marva Josie – Now is the time / Oohbiskubido – Julmar 500 Ex £75 (Excellent 2 sider, a horn back sassy vocal on the top side, the flip, ignore the title, its a decent soul dancer, on a great beat) Fabulettes – If it wasn’t for the girls – Local 807 Ex £150 (A recent auction item for John Manship, and according to the write up a rare one, Sax Kari involvement in this raw bouncy NOLA release. 2 Xol) Classic Sullivans - Shame, shame, shame - Master Key 03 M-£100 (What a tune, male group soul harmonies at the top end. Minor edge lift does not affect play) Gladys Knight & Pips - Stop and get a hold of myself - Maxx 334 Ex £100 (Fabulous track from the Motown starlet) Gloria Taylor - Total disaster - Mercury 73186 Ex £40 (Prolific and underrated songstress, with a stunning catalogue. This choice is a hidden gem) Carol Anderson - It shouldn’t happen to a dog / Holding on - Mid-Town 270 M- £175 (Of “Sad girl” and “Taking my mind off love” fame, this 1972 Detroit release from Carol brings 2 great sides together. Not often seen for sale and a bit under the radar) Eddie Holland – I’m on the outside looking in – Motown 1049 WD M- £125 (Lovely copy of this powerhouse Hitsville release) PayPal by friends or add 4% please, or bank transfer.
