Chris L
Yes so sad, a bit of an icon on the Northern Soul scene, a super DJ, knew how fill a dancefloor. We're all eternally grateful for that Motown stuff he unearthed. He's been around ever since the scene started, the likes of people him we just don't see anymore. RIP Chris. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Popular Post Daved
RIP Chris. I used to love the Bretby all-nighters he used to promote with Dave Thorley. He was always very welcoming. 4 Link to comment Social source share
Popular Post Baz Atkinson
It’s all over social media and rightly so . He brought a lot of fabulous acts to the UK and looked after them ( great testimonials from Eddie Holman etc ) today . He also promoted sone pretty cool soul nighters etc and was a talented DJ . He definitely lived and gave back to the scene in a big way at a time when the British Northern Soul Scene needed nighters to break new sounds . I think he will be sorely missed . 5 Link to comment Social source share
Odd Fellows Soul
Help to set a new standard of live Northern soul acts at the Hinckley all nighters. Popcorn, Eddie Holman, Junior Walker, Major Lance and of course Edwin Starr amongst others. Massive Motown advocate on the decks when djing at Hinckley even before the Motown discoveries. My condolences to his family and close friends. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Popular Post Marty57
Very sad times he put the Northern into soul for a hell of a lot of people in Nottingham, never seen anyone that could rock the joint like Chris. He would put Billy Butlers the Right Track on & the place would erupt , why ? Cos its one of those tunes that had you pushing your way on to the floor as a kid , he made you feel like a kid again , thank you Chris for those memories, rest in peace bro x 4 Link to comment Social source share
Solidsoul
Very sad news. A great DJ and he knew the very essence of Northern Soul, which he showed by being able to wind up the dance floor and create a great atmosphere Edited March 23, 2023 by Solidsoul 1 Link to comment Social source share
Ian Parker
Nottingham Palais, late 70's Chris King was a name that was synonymous with that and other Notts area venues, around that time. big voice and always a busy dance floor. my other memory of him, is walking up my home street, in grantham, to a TV repair shop... lo and behold, theres 'kingy' buying a load of CB radios !! then came 'please dont go' then those great niters at Bretby . where he broke 'when i feel the need' WAIT FOR THE BEAT , came booming out of the speakers. we owe a lot to CK, especially the unreleased Motown . RIP fella 1 Link to comment Social source share
Thinksmart
Sad news and yes, lots of affection for Chris in Nottingham. Would chat at Rob's in the past. Was important also in that 1990s Nottingham Northern Soul resurgence that was really exciting to be back part of. Link to comment Social source share
Popular Post Mark R
A cross post from my Facebook page..........more very sad news........... I was very sad to learn of the passing of Chris King yesterday. Chris was promoter of some of those early all nighter's I went to in the 80's, memorable events to say the least.........The Ric-Tic Review & Gene Chandler at Hinckley spring to mind, the all-nighter's at Warrington Parr Hall under the Three Voices banner, latterly the ace Bretby all-nighter's at the Country Club not forgetting his 40th birthday party there, the marquee, Joe Hunter etc...........and in-between at least one all-dayer at Madison night club in Nuneaton, which he owned for a while. Of course I should mention Stafford and some of those records he brought to the scene at that time via his trip to the States with Gilly, Guy et al. I'll never forget his Jag parked outside Hinckley Leisure Centre one night...........H1T CK...........was the registration plate, of course reference to his wider mainstream music involvement, most notably perhaps with K.W.S. He also had the vinyl pressing plant, again evidence of a wider love of, and business involvement in, all things music. I don't claim to have known Chris well, but he always seemed a likeable fella to me and he certainly left his mark on our little music world and at the very least made a dent beyond that. R.I.P. Chris, sleep well chap, and thanks for the good times, of which there were many Mark R 7 Link to comment Social source share

soulalways
This is very sad news indeed..My fondest memory of chris was when i was flogging about 400 45,s and he came round to my house for a gander. He bought the lot that i put in an old suitcase for him to take away in his jag with a pile of "Blues & Soul" mags. My regret was he offered to take me into Nottingham to meet Popcorn Wylie who was on at Hinckley which sadly i couldnt accept, a big regret now years later. When we met up at his gigs we had a laugh about the suitcase.Great lad & Jock that will be missed by this fellow Nottingam native... R.I.P. mate and condolences to his Family...God Bless 1 Link to comment Social source share

Peter99
Sincere apologies. I have only just seen and heard this sad news. I was only saying to a friend on Sunday about Chris's Motown trips in particular. I first met Chris after a Derby Assembly Rooms All Niter in Derby - 1979? Me and my mate were hitch hiking home and he picked us up in his Mercedes sports car - told my mate off for slamming the door too hard. Last caught up with him at Bretby, at his birthday bash. What a great loss, sincere condolences to his family and friends. Peter Link to comment Social source share
