Stateside Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I am just about to renew my buildings and contents insurance and just wondered if I should specify all of my vinyl or just specific records. Do normal contents policies cover record collections in any event provided you have enough overall cover in value. Has anyone ever claimed Kev
Gasher Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 no they dont ............a collection must be itemised and insured separately most policies unless you stipulate wont pay out more than 2k for any one item its a standard cop out so If theyre worth a few bob..do it right but its not cheap.

Has anyone ever claimed Kev My ex hubby had them pinched at a allniter about 12 years ago. We had gone to the trouble of getting them specifically covered about a year before that. We paid a bit extra, we had to list them & them get a record dealer to verify the prices. He was deejaying at a do when they went, there was about 5k's worth that went. He put in a claim but the insurance company wouldnt pay out as they werent taken from a locked room. He even tried taking his case to the insurance onsbudman (not sure that's why you spell it), but that was no use. Something to bear in mind if you are insuring them, especially if you are deejaying. That said my ex was a bit irresponsible by getting drunk after his spot & falling asleep in the toilet, but in the same token they were pinched by someone on the scene. Hope that's helped. Kirsty
Guest mobbsy Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 insurance company's will not pay out much on your contents insurance, as far as i know there no one out there who will insure rare records .my mate had his rare history books insured had to log everyone was then insured by the Farmers Union insurance company maybe they may insure records? Must be a right pain as how do you prove you have these records? >how do you prove how much they are worth? hope this helps.

I have a Norwich Union Tapestry House Fabric and Contents Policy, which is very good, will provide cover in and out of the house and you don't need to itemise your collection. However, they specialise in larger cover amounts (£100K plus for contents) and therefore, it's not cheap.
