Guest Michael Higgins Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Has anyone any tracks they think are grossly undervalued, or just ignored because of their relative availability? A TK Maxx of Northern Soul if you like. I'll post a few up, just as soon as I get this dial-up cranked up enough.
Soul-slider Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 'The Same Old Thing' - Olympics (Mirwood)....great oldie that you never hear anymore, and cheap!!!
Guest Michael Higgins Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Three attempts at uploading later, I think I'll just say my nomination for now: Troy Marrs and the Dynamics - Rhythm message (Sure Shot) I got it for seven and the last time I saw it, it was under twenty. Used to be covered up by Colin Law as Willie G and the Magic Rhythm Band "Baby, I need you". Fabulous bopper.
Guest Michael Higgins Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 ...and The Emotions "I can't stand no more heartaches" (Brainstorm) I know they sing in one note the whole way through and the record's about as rare as a repro Lautrec placemat, but what a production!

KevH Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 BEST £1000 RECORD FOR A TENNER OR LESS.... SUPERLATIVES....LONELY IN A CROWD...IMHO,,KEV.
Guest Michael Higgins Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 my next nomination... Clydie King "Bout love" (Lizard) 45-21007 (also on her Lizard LP "Direct Me") This is one of those records that you only remember just how good it is when you get round to playing it again (which tends not to be often). Used to be a staple of budget sales boxes at every allnighter in the country, but worth looking out the album just for the outrageously foxy photograph of Ms King on the cover. Nurse, cold water please.
Guest lolmil Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Almost - jimmy delphs - karen 15267 refosoul Wouldn't say it should be worth a fortune but a nice little tune
Guest Johnny Mack Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Two cheap Smashers from me : The Festivals - You got the makings of a lover - Smash 2091 Fantastic mid-tempo record. Very very underrated record. Renaldo Domino - I'm hip to your game - Smash 2160 Flip side of the more well known You dont love me no more, so its two for the price of one here. "Hip" is great midtempo. If you dont know them, just buy them anyway - I guarantee you wont be disappointed ! Take care John
Chalky Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Don't Hurt The One You Love - willie parker - m-pac 15091 refosoul If yours is the release # 7235 you ought to flip it over, Salute To Lovers, another cracking side.

Guest Michael Higgins Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Sorry I still can't get my pesky dial-up to cope with sound files , but my next nomination is: Robert Walker and the Soul Strings - Stick to me (RCA) 47-9304 You all know this, but please, please indulge me. I'm a sucker for instrumentals anyway, but this really does have to be one of the best of all time. Swirling, big-budget orchestration, hand-clap breaks, unrelenting beat -- the lot, and more. Any collector of oldies of the classic vintage, with an ear for a 1967 big city production, should be thoroughly ashamed if this isn't in their collection. For my part, I'd put my pint on a copy of the Deadbeats and cover my chaser with Main Change to dance to this, any time. Richard Searling commented on the rarity of this on the sleeve notes to the original "Jumping at the go go" LP. Either he must have been talking about black stock copies (which, in that RCA scheme of things, are very rare) or someone had a warehouse full, because copies seem to be turn up all the time, and are insultingly cheap to buy. The "plug side" "The Blizzard" is also big production Northern, tho with an off-beat feel. Compared to Stick to Me, it's guff, but I'm always struck by hints of familiarity about the backing track, which sounds a lot like something else (starting with the first few bars).
Mark Bicknell Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Cheap... absolutely awesome.. and everyone can have a copy... how good is that! PUSHIN & PULLIN - lovemasters - jacklyn 15070 refosoul Tunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnne!!!! Regards - Mark Bicknell.
