Herman Lewis – Who’s kissing you tonight / Think twice before you walk away – Mercury 73002 M- £1100 SOLD

What is it about J.J. Barnes, everything he touches, whether it be as an artist, writer, or producer turns to gold! The credits are the same if you have the local Stone Blue release or this heavyweight major label format, owning either is the challenge. The quality of “Who’s kissing” is not in debate, sheer class mid-tempo gem, and a half decent crossover “Think twice” on the flip.

What’s always been debated is the identity of Lewis, which does appear to be Motown’s Herman Griffin. His connections having moved on from Detroit and Motown’s early years was to work in the company of Cincinnati producer Gordon Neal who oversaw the Prime, mostly known for the Shirtails and David Thomas outings and the Stone Blue labels.

I sold a sought-after Stone Blue white demo earlier this year, privately for no kerfuffle, and I appreciate that the national may not be as desirable to completists, but it’s still one hell of a 45 and so darn scare, and half the price cheaper. Promo stamp on flip, overall in in lovely condition.
