Soulfulsolutions Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) Another short but great list of impressive Soul albums to go. I’ve sold what was meant to be part 3 and 4 in the background, so this would have been part 5 and taking it up a notch with the more desirable moderately priced albums. I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but there are always hidden gems on every disc, several great covers or unreleased on 45. Happy to provide more images of each item on request as the site limits upload capacity. Graded Cover / Vinyl, recordings in Mono (Mo) or Stereo (St). Some are a bit dusty from storage so may need a wipe down. Message me to reserve or ask any questions. Maxine Brown – Out of sight – Epic 26395 (St) Ex+ M- £100 SOLD Rarer Canadian issue, massive Mike Terry involvement, overseeing production and arrangements on this session. There’s a wealth of top-notch tracks here, backed up by credits to Mikki Farrow, Jerry Ragovoy, Bridges-Eaton-Knight, Sam Cooke et al. Includes the glorious mid-tempo gem ‘Don’t Leave Me Baby’ credited to Jack Ashford and the super dancer ‘Just Give Me One Good Reason’ which never appeared on 45 and. Very minor wear and dh on cover. Billy Butler – Right track – Okeh 12115 (Mo) Ex- / M- £80 SOLD Take many of his most popular 45s, plonk them on a long player, and Billy’s your uncle you have 40 minutes of sheer delight on one piece of plastic. Just peek at the label scans to understand just what you’re getting. Small tear top right and usual dh on cover. Little Richard – The Explosive – Okeh 12117 (Mo) Ex+ / Ex+ £30 As the title says it’s a banger, and you’d expect nowt less from Ricardo. The title track ‘I Don’t Want to Discuss It’ is a collectors piece on 45, also includes ‘I Need Love’ and ‘Poor Dog’. Some very minor ageing on top left and dh on cover. Artistics – Get my hands on some lovin’ – Okeh 12119 WD (Mo) Ex+ / M- £150 Very hard to find LP, even more so on the white demo which is the first release of course. Chicago group soul compendium and what a representation of laid back classic mid-tempo dancers. Lovely artwork on the cover which shows just minor wear around the seam. Larry Williams & Johnny Watson – Two for the price of one – Okeh 12122 (Mo) Ex+ / M- £80 SOLD You can tell by the cover artwork you’re in for one hell of a ride, pretty much the way these 2 did their music. The non-45 track ‘Takin’ No Chances’ steals it for me, absolutely brilliant, they’ve chucked in Quitter, Too Late, Rather fight and the title track ‘Two for the price of one’ to make this one hell of an LP. Very minor wear, dh on cover Tempests – Would you believe – Smash 67098 (St) Ex / Ex £225 These Carolina boys couldn’t have earnt much doing what they did, the money had to be shared between at least 10 in the band, jeez that’s some split with manager and crew. What they did do was leave a fantastic legacy of mid-tempo dance floor winners. Another 40 minutes of joy, including ‘Would you believe’, a great cover of one of the most recorded soul tunes in history ‘Ain't no big thing’, the monster non-45 ‘Someday’ that Guy H reputedly broke to the masses and the superb ‘What you gonna do’ with the unmistakable lead vocalist laid bare. They missed a trick though, ‘Out of my life’ a big gap in the comp. Small crease bottom left, light wear and dh on cover. Edwin Starr – Soul Master – Tamla Motown 931 (St) NM / M- £40 Canadian vinyl in US Gordy cover, reason is the Canadian cover I have is signed by Edwin and the Gordy vinyl is a demo which I collect, so I have mixed and matched to keep the pairing I want most. As a result, the cover you get is in top shape. A fantastic album riddled with his Ric-Tic and Motown classics that are a fine epitaph to one of our scene’s greatest Ambassadors, and sorely missed he is. It was only the other day I heard SOS on my local commercial radio station, I hoped the populace was taking genius in! PayPal by Friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. Postage: £5 - 1st Class Signed for (Insured to £50 only) £9 – Special Delivery (Fully Insured) No overseas on these, sorry Cheers, Lee Edited November 12, 2022 by Soulfulsolutions
