Mike Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 ??? At 19 mins here, it plays the Gordon Gin thing Sharonettes is at 0 mins, Don Thomas at 5 mins Member said 19 mins.. 3
Happy Feet Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Just looked and it's on YouTube Gordon's Gin advert 1970 if you want to watch it , 2
Woodbutcher Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Just as an aside , I've always thought a certain Master Weller 'borrowed' the riff from the Gin thing for "Happy Together Now" on the last Jam studio LP "The Gift" ... 3
Happy Feet Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 So it's Jeff Wayne , Gordon's Gin advert , Covered by Human League, and sampled by Mr Weller , The Crazy World of Northern Soul eh
Steviehay Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 £ 40 FOR A GIN RECORD ??? DEFO THE STRANGE WORLD OF NORTHERN SOUL
Amsterdam Russ Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 The OP says "...what the track is at 19:00 minutes." So is it the track that's 19 minutes in or the track that plays when the time stamp hits 19 minutes?
St Pauli soul Posted November 8, 2022 Author Posted November 8, 2022 Thanks Guys, after over 35 years I finally know I can give up looking to get a copy of this "Gordens Dry Gin" advert. 2

Phillydog66 Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 it's the gordon's gin theme but sounds different to the jeff wayne version.
Prophonics 2029 Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 The Human League did a version in 1980.
Prophonics 2029 Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 the start sounds like a different song, I wondering if Jeff Wayne ripped off an older song he heard for this.
Paul R Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 (edited) That's one that certainly passed me by at the time. Listening to the other tracks it must be very late 74, but more like mid 75. Paul Edited November 13, 2022 by Paul R

I’m almost reluctant to keep this going! however that’s definitely the promo 7 of Gordon’s Gin as it came out inc the slow intro. If you’re comparing to some of the YouTube clips available, they’re mostly the 80s version. IMB - as I’ve never said in my life…
Chalky Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 The gear was certainly good in them days I'd need to be off my head to put up with crap like this 3

From what I recall most people (admittedly off their rockers…) just looked it at as someone having a bit of laugh (including a few half hearted dancers who just kept their space on the floor for 2 minutes). It was nowhere near taking off in any meaningful way and nobody expected it to. My gang thought it was fun for a moment. No more, no more less. Edited November 14, 2022 by Godzilla

Never ceases to amaze me why some people are still posting wrong answers to a question that was answered correctly ages ago ... the thread has even been tagged as answered thus ... I can't decide whether it's because they cannot read , cannot hear , cannot tell the time or are just too lazy to read the thread .... ? Edited November 16, 2022 by Woodbutcher 2

Don't lose your hair (if you still have any) over a TV advert it's not with it. Check the facts. How can a recording released in 1979 be played at Wigan in 1974 , what's the next claim ? The Dr Who them was played in Mr Ms in 1973 Edited November 17, 2022 by Prophonics 2029
