I saw this posted on FB this morning and I was shocked and saddened to hear about his passing. R.I.P Steve. Top guy in Mr M's and he really knew what we wanted to dance to. Another legend lost so sad.

One of my fave djs of all and by far one of the best to be present on the scene all those years. A true gentleman and connoisseur of soul music. Fond memories of asking him always to put on Kelly Garrett - Loves The Only Answer for the Stroud lot. R.I.P Steve, it's very sad and know 100% you will be sorely missed by very many on the scene.

Such sad news to hear. Steve was a good friend, a real gent,  a good man to say nothing of being a terrific DJ. He introduced me to new sounds, Wigan Athletic, a love that has stayed with me, Pemps and other pubs and clubs in Wigan,  and too many shared good times together to list here. Can still remember Newquay.

Sincere condolences to his family, sons Mark and David, and his many friends in the Northern Soul Community.

RIP pal - Walk with a winner.

So very sad, a true gentleman of the scene, had the privilege of sharing stages with Steve many times over the years, Leighton Buzzard, Keele, Hinckley, Wigan events, numerous Scooter Rallies in the early 80's, a professional DJ and a lovley bloke, not seen him for a few years but fabulous to see him back DJ'ing in recent years, the real Mr.M who will be sadly missed.

Like Mark I remember Steve Post Wigan,  remember him at so many  venues in early 80s , very sad news,  and that great allniter in the sky has gained a great dj to keep all those soulies already there on the dance floor.   Rip Steve and regards to all your family and friends

I am totally shocked and saddened by this news. I  sometimes got lifts from nighters with Steve in the 80's. A lovely guy and a DJ who was a big part of my introduction to Northern Soul in the 70's. Condolences to Steve's family.

Very sad to hear this, and at 65 no age at all. I’ll always remember his name from the full page ads that Wigan Casino ran in Blues & Soul long before I got to go up there. He was also a friendly guy that never hesitated to share his enthusiasm for those classic sounds with the younger crowd. He’ll also go down in NS history as the guy that played the VERY last tune at Wigan which if I’m not wrong was The Night, perfectly matching the mood… RIP Steve.

I was privileged to hear Ian Wills deliver an hour long tribute to Steve Whittle at Blackpool this afternoon. Also witnessed by his sons Mark and Lee.

Very emotional and not an easy task for Ian.

You did Steve proud.

Well done pal.👏
