Andykempster Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I just bought a copy of Lee Shot Williams- I found love/It ain’t me on Gifer Records, does anyone have any more info on this label? all the best, Andy
Benji Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Lifted from Discogs, sounds plausible to me: Cifer (sic) Records was originally from the Netherlands and run bij Surinam management. As records from more obscure soul artists were hard to get in the NL, they were printed in the Netherlands or Belgium by labels like Gifer Records. The Dutch have STEMRA on it, the Belgium SABAM
Solution Tlscapital Posted October 18, 2022 Solution Posted October 18, 2022 Mmh, Surinamers were more into bootleging I've always understood than this presentation suggests (obeying politicaly correct crap-trap of DatCogs). The Surinamers were a "niche" market. And it's true that many of the Surinamers bootlegs I've seen are baring the SABAM (Belgium State (back then - not anymore...) copyrights registration 'badge' but then what ? Call the police ? These records all seem to have been pressed in Holland if you ask me. Baring the SABAM logo could have been just a fluke. And the cheap company sleeve (colors of the Dutch flag) an extra bonus. Finally I haven't seen much of these in Belgium but have come across them in bigger numbers in Holland. Without paying much interest into what they are, true. But I'll ask people there next time. 2
Soul Shrews Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Always assumed this was a Dutch/Suri bootleg label. Cheers Paul 1
Andykempster Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 Mmm, thanks guys. I suspected it was a bootleg. If for no other reason it just has that look and feel to the labels. I didn’t pay a lot for it so I guess I’ll just keep hold of it for now Thanks for all the info all the best, Andy 1
