Hi all, I have it in my (old) head that one of the DJs at the Blackpool Mecca circa 69/70 ish was called Billy Butler or am I going doolally?!

If there was a DJ by that name, was it the same Billy Butler of Radio Merseyside fame who I know was into rare soul / northern.

I know this because in 71/72 when I was at college, he played Darkest Days for me at the Mardi Gras club in Liverpool.

It was the first time I had heard it.

Hi Gordon, I think in the early days of the Mecca Billy the Kid dj'd alongside Tony Jebb, I never knew his real name, however on my very first visit I remember requesting Billy Butler's The Right track and Tony played it for me.

One of the very early DJs used to post in the earlier KTF group nearly two decades ago. He was in Canada by then and listed loads of early NS plays pre CC & IL (before the term NS existed of course). If I remember correctly his name was Ron but I could be wrong on that.
