Diggin' Dave Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 DIGGIN' DAVE 45s LIST - SEPTEMBER 2022 Full list with sound ans scans can be viewed >>HERE<< Sugar Ray Roll – My heart and I (Don’t believe it) / Got to move out on you baby – Beauty 2140 Sweet soul perfection. Visual grade: M- €800 Lou Lawton – Knick knack patty wack / It’s that time of day – Wand 1160 Northern staple that probably needs no introduction. Hairline mark from outer edge to label is visible on both sides. Plays perfect. Visual grade: VG+ €500 Dave Crawford And The Apollos Four – But baby, not in a dream / If the moon is still up there – Da-Po 101 Suuuuuper rare Georgia garage rocker and a bit of an earworm too. Pam had a lot of good records. Visual grade: VG €400 Johnie Brown & The Fabulous Arcades – Watch me work / Captivation – Puff 1106 Detroit northern / R&B monster. Copies have dried up at the source and this is my last copy so don’t sleep. Visual grade: EX €400 J.D. and Eddie – She’s giving me love / Now she wants to leave – Pico 1021 Stunning double-sider from LA with ex-Metallics lead singer on vocals. Tough to pick a winner but the flip takes the edge for me with the exceptional vocal workout. Visual grade: M-, slight warp NAP €350 Backwater Boogie Band – Git on down / Sweet beach music – 4 Sale 1003 In-demand Carolina disco boogie rarity. Visual grade: EX, minor warp NAP €250 Betty & Beverly Prudhomme – Tut tut twins Pt I/II – Cobra Eye 79 This is how I like my disco records. Leftfield oddball vibes but production is round and on point. That snare/clap knocks it out of the park. Visual grade: M- €225 The Johnson Brothers – When I was a boy / I’m takin’ a train – Smoke House 601 Top shelf deep Florida ballad. Some crackle but the clean copies tend to have that too. Visual grade: VG, minor warp NAP €200 Clear feat Lee Edwards – Equal love opportunity / Instrumental – DT 5799 Sought-after Detroit stepper. This copy was most likely unplayed when I found it but has a short feeler mark causing a slight tick for some rotations from 0:37 onwards. Would’ve been EX otherwise. Visual grade: VG €200 The Bostweeds – Little bad news / Simple man – Chattahoochee 689 Crisp OG of this mid-60s garage stomper. Visual grade: EX €200 Bobby Cash – Nobody knows / Only with you – Kap-Tal 1002 Big room Northern from Florida that’s still largely unknown. Visual grade: VG+ €180 Sonics Band – Running late Pt I/II – Black Beauty 52374 Tough Chicago funk burner. Visual grade: VG €175 Edward Hamilton & The Natural Looks – Willing mind / My darling baby – Mary Jane 1111 Quoted to be the purest soulful outing of his oeuvre by Edward himself, and it’s hard to argue with that. Very strong personal fave. Surface looks pretty clean but has one feeler mark causing soms ticks from 0:45 till around the minute mark. Visual grade: VG €160 Jazz – Which way is up / Roxy – Statler 8031 One of the best releases on Art Stone’s dance instruction label. Still firmly under the radar. Visual grade: EX, minor warp NAP €150 Bo Shiloh – You gonna lose / I’ll sell my soul to the devil – Savannah Sound 200993 Under the radar Georgia dancer with a lot of potential on both the northern and R&B scene. Visual grade: Strong VG+ €150 Sweet Poppa’s Show Stoppers – I love you to the bone / Just call me baby – Ar’Nett 163 Moody downtempo modern from down South. Actually looks more like a VG+ but has some heat damage. Tracks well at normal tonearm weight, it’s very slightly audible but kind of adds to the overall vibe of the tune (that last part might just be a feeble attempt at sales pitch) Visual grade: G €100 Al Collier – Who will take your place / You had no right to go – Swa Ray 6152 Tough popcorn from New York state. A lot of marks but nothing deep. Visual grade: VG- €100 Junior Wells – (I got a) Stomach ache / Shake it baby! – Vanguard 35049 Two outstanding R&B dancers but Stomach Ache is the stand out for me with its irresistible scat rhythms. Visual grade: EX €100 Master Four – Love from the far east / It’s not the end – Tay-Ster 6024 DJ Copy Huge Detroit sound by virtue of the Bob Gallo production. 1968 Demo copy in clean shape. Visual grade: EX, storage warp NAP €80 The Niteriders – Come get these memories / That almost was me – Niterider 1001 Private blue-eyed version of the Martha & The Vandellas cut. Nice version with more dance floor appeal. Visual grade: Strong VG+ €80 Debbie Sciame & The Rhythm Rockets – A little bit of some of you / My lonely heart and you – Sha-La-Mar 2611 Private, eerie female guitar rocker. Pretty awesome. Visual grade: VG+ to EX €75 Lyn Avalon – Luna del mar / Bernie’s tune – Saturn 108 Atmospheric jazzy popcorn that grows on you. Beautiful copy. Visual grade: M- €75 Marie Franklin – I’ll forget about you / Every night about midnite – Resist 507 Raw R&B with a standout vocal performance by Marie. As an added bonus this record has one of the most intense feedback moments ever to be captured on wax. Visual grade: VG €60 Luie Luie – Bump me baby / Sunshine and roses – Manton 102 If you’re not familiar with this guy or his discography I’ll strongly suggest you to check it out. This particular one features one of the least lounge-friendly lounge tunes you’ll ever hear. Has some superficial marks and a hairline mark running from outer edge to center but no fractures. Visual grade: Strong VG €60 Delores Eiler – He won’t love you / Undecided – Aqua-Gem 111-3500 Heavyweight sister funk. Girls answer to Vehicle by the Ides of March but really wipes the floor with the more well-known version Visual grade: M-, minor warp NAP €60 Black Nasty – You keep me hanging on / Instrumental – Tank 002 Pretty awesome version of the Supremes tune by the Detroit outfit. Visual grade: EX €60 Sam Savage – My lady / Florida – RRS 2463 Sweet Florida stepper in excellent nick. Visual grade: EX €55 Brutal Force – Dreams for sale / The number for groove – Phil-LA of Soul 384 Disco funk bomb that easily matches its four igure counterparts on the dance floor. Visual grade: M- €50 Bobbi Humphrey – Baby don’t you know (vocal / instrumental) – Uno Melodic 800 Classic disco cut by the jazz flautist. Rare on 45. Roy Ayers production. Visual grade: EX €45 Apollo – Sad girl / Gave it all away – FM 3495 Super rare quirky 80s version of the Midniters tune. Visual grade: EX, minor warp NAP €20
