Woodbutcher
Well I've seen some rather questionable descriptions on John's site in the past but the way he's bigging-up the weak Session Two recording is the best yet. It sits at £2800+ at present and lawd knows where it'll end , there must be some desperate folk out there , the issue's 'only' about £1600-2000 now surely. Might start thinking about letting my Session One Take One 8" acetate go at this rate , it's a much better ballsier cut ... I think it's also time I donated my Mum's hearing aids to YKW ... https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/hayes-cotton-black-wings-has-my-angel-the-miles-grayson-2nd-session-audio-disc-acetate.html https://soundcloud.com/woodbutcher-2/hayes-cotton-black-wings-has-my-angel-session1-take-1 Link to comment Social source share
Chalky
There are a handful of the acetates, maybe 8 or 9 that Tim got I think in the early 90s, maybe 91? 1 Link to comment Social source share
Woodbutcher
Think there's 5 or 6 Karl , the one John's got up at the moment is definitely one of the weaker takes ... 1 Link to comment Social source share
Ted Massey
Michael Robinson has one of these acetates 1 Link to comment Social source share
Mrtag
I am Pretty sure Tim Brown sold a yellow issue with this same bland take It sounds empty without the harmonica!! Just My humble opinion mind!! 1 Link to comment Social source share
Mrtag
the Issue is around £3k plus for a minter!! 1 Link to comment Social source share

I don't particularly but I do prefer the take with it in, gives a bit more oomph. 2 Link to comment Social source share
Quinvy
Don’t know what you’re on about. The “has” version is far superior to me. The beat lends itself to dancing. The “have” version is “ponderous” to say the least. The “has” issue is much rarer too. I’ve never heard that version played out. Link to comment Social source share
Benji
I like both cuts. Both proper stomping Northern. But what I don‘t understand is what he‘s singing about. Can anyone explain that to me? Lyrics don‘t make sense to me…. Link to comment Social source share

Can anyone explain that to me? Lyrics don‘t make sense to me…. Fallen angels have black wings apparently, "Eminent among these angels are Shemyaza, their leader, and Azazel. Like many other fallen angels mentioned in 1 Enoch 8.1–9, Azazel introduces men to "forbidden arts", and it is Azazel who is rebuked by Enoch himself for illicit instruction, as stated in 1 Enoch 13.1." 2 Link to comment Social source share

I like both takes but to hear played out the fuller production takes it every time!! but it's down to personal choice !! Black wings have my angel Satan in high heels Doing the devil's will A walking lesson in love She's got a talent for loving That's my baby But black wings have my angel She's a devil (?? something something??) If she wants to be Giving just a taste of love That she says belongs to me But her smile becomes her so How can I ever let her go Although I know That black wings have my angel Would have been better had I never known her love Or heard her whisper in the dark Could have been better had I never shown my love Or given her my heart Shouldn't have given her my heart She makes my life a (?? something, something?? - could be "a heavy load along a crooked road") Yes she does But she loves me twice on Sundays And thrice on stormy Mondays And I love her Oh, I love her Although I know That black wings have my angel But she's my baby But she's my baby (Fade out on "Have" version) But black wings have my angel But she's my baby Aw, but she's my baby Edited August 3, 2022 by Amsterdam Russ Misin wurd Link to comment Social source share
