FRANKIE ALLEN: Some Time Alone * C.R.S., Promo, VG+, 150.- Euro
Great and very rare Philly Sweet Soul. Vinyl has a non feelable surface mark, that keeps it form being mint. Playgrade is excellent, check the soundbyte!
GHETTO CHILDREN: It's Not Easy To Say Goodbye / Don't Take Your Sweet Lovin' Away * ROULETTE, Promo, VG++, wol and a very light lift, not affecting play at all, 80.- Euro, sold
Two fantastic uptempo 70's dance soul sides back to back with an irresistable Bobby Martin production anticipating the upcoming disco wave, but never neglecting the classic soul era. This record had some spins some 20 years ago on the UK Modern Soul scene and listening to it now, makes me wonder, which big name DJ starts the revival.
North Carolina Funk kicking off with an amazing open drum break and despite the fact, that the drummer on this track really gets wicked, I have a weak spot for records imitating animals. Killer flip on top and needless to say that this is a record that rarely pops up for sale.
LEE McDONALD: Gotta Get Home / Show Me * DEBBIE, M-, 75.- Euro, on hold
Outstanding Modern Soul stepper from 1979. Top side is on the rare LP by Lee McDonald as well, but the 7" provides a different mix compared to the LP-take. Flip it over for a beautiful slow jam.
15 years ago, when Joe Bataan started touring again, he guested in the Mojo Club on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. When he came back on stage for his encores he asked the audience, if there's a particular song, that they want to hear. someone screamed "Johnny" and 10 seconds later the crowd danced to this 1973 funky Latin Soul masterpiece like they never danced before.
This copy unfortunately has a 1cm scratch, right in the middle of the tune, that causes some clicks, nothing to bad and a repair job would fix this easily. Check the soundfile before ordering please!
JOHN WILLIAMS & THE TICK TOCKS: Do Me Like You Do Me / Blues, Tears And Sorrows * SANSU, promo, M-, 60.- Euro, on hold
Bargain price for a legendary New Orleans soul 45. One side provides a top notch 60's dancer, that had plays on the Northern Soul scene. Flipside is one of the finest deep soul ballads recorded in the crescent city. This copy has the label of "Do Me..." glued on twice, it would be easy to remove the upper label, I leave that up to the new owner.
CHARLES JOHNSON: Good Good Lovin'* * DASH, promo, M-, 50.- Euro, sold
A record, that suffers the sad fate called "his other record". Everybody knows and adores Charles Johnsons immortal "Never had a love so good" and a classic like this overshadows everything else in your Å’uvre. A huge mistake, "Good Good Lovin'" is equally great and costs a fraction of his big one. Check the soundbyte and get blown away by a perfect Florida Modern Soul dancer.
THE YOUNG HOLT TRIO: Ain't There Something Money Can't Buy * BRUNSWICK, M-, 50.- Euro
This Chicago trio never needed more than a Piano, an upright bass and a set of drums to create some irresistable jazzy grooves. Gangstarr sampled this and Nick Waterhouse plays "Ain't There Something..." in his live sets. Clean copy in it's original birth sleeve.
MADELINE & THE MONTICELLOS: Binding Ring Of Gold * DE-VEL, promo, VG+, 50.- Euro, sold
Dance group soul of the highest order; soulful to the max female singing, backed up by a super tight band and Gamble & Huff staff member Gene Dozier was behind the controls. A great record by any means!
OTTO DE ROJAS Y LOS ULTRAS 76: Al Ritmo Del Bump-Bump * RCA, Made in Peru, wol, VG+, 40.- Euro, sold
Killer funky latin-soul take of Young Holt Unlimited's "Soulful Strut" with that certain "Tighten Up"-feel, that works so very well on the dance floor. Only released in Peru, a few mild clicks during the opening bars, after that this copy plays almost perfect.
TONY ASHLEY: I'll Never Be Satisfied / All Along I've Loved You * FORTE, M-, 40.- Euro
One of the great unsung heroes of soulmusic's long history. He recorded only three 45s in his short career and was shot dead aged 29 in front of his workplace. This is Tony Ashley's (miscredited here as Tony Ashly) debut for Forte records in Kansas City and both sides provide lovely indie label soulmusic. The flip really gets my juices flowing with it's deep soul flavour, if you like it more raw and funky, check out the featured side "I'll Never Be Satisfied"..
ERIC AND THE VIKINGS: Vibrations (Made Us Fall In Love) / Get Off The Streets Ya'll * SOULHAWK, promo, M-, 40.- Euro, sold
Two contrasting but equally great Detroit sides written and produced by Popcorn Wylie. "Vibrations" is great sweet crossover soul, flip it over for some action packed funk. Clean promo copy, that never needs an upgrade.
WINDY CITY: We Party Heavy Up In Heah / Good Guys Don't Always Win * INNOVATION II, VG++/VG-, 35.- Euro
Half price on this uptempo 70's banger because the flipside has a feelable scratch, that causes clicks. The good news is, that the play-out-side "We Party..." is nice and clean and plays like a champ.
HI-FI WHITE: Need Somebody * SANDMAN, VG, wol, 35.- Euro
Crossover soul heaven on Sandy Wilburns short lived Sandman output from Chicago. Record has mild marks and plays with soft crackles in parts, priced accordingly. Check the soundbyte!
ELLIOT SMALL: Girls Are Made For Loving * NEW SOUND, VG+, warped plays through with no problems, 35.- Euro
Half price on this rare local first release before Bang took over for national distribution. Clean vinyl, except a small cluster of scratches towards the end, that causes some crackles. Record is warped, but plays without extra tracking on both of my turntables.
LITTLE JOE MIXON: What You See Is What You Get * DUO, VG++, stamps on lbl, 30.- Euro, sold
Duo was one of these Chicago indie labels, that produced all killers, no fillers with this one being no exception. Funky, soulful 1970 release, that never really took off, but definitely has some mileage in the grooves.
ERROLL GAYE & THE IMAGINATIONS: Love And Affection / You Don't Want my Love * STEEL TOWN; M-, 30.- Euro
One side soulful and uptempo, flip it over for a great sweet side. Excellent 1975 local Pittsburgh release, that can only go up in price. This copy comes with it's original jukebox stripe.
WILLIE WILLIAMS: It Gets In Your Feet (When You Hear The Beat) / Funky Chicken Along With * GAMMA, VG+, 30.- Euro
Decently rare Windy City funk double sider form a guy, who recorded to collectable 45s for ABS in the 60's. This record here is from 1970 and if you like your records funky and raw, you know what to do.
THE ADMIRATIONS: Don't Leave Me * ONE-DERFUL, M-, 30.- Euro
Mint copy of this stunning slice of Chicago 60's soul. Wonderful harmonies a superb lead voice and a fingersnapping dance beat mixed together to soul perfection.
SYL JOHNSON: Going To The Shack / Don't Give It Away * TWINIGHT, VG++, 30.- Euro, on hold
In my little book the best two-sider Syl Johnson recorded for Twinight records. "Going To The Shack" is a blasting funky soul track, that sounds incredible played out loud, while the flipside comes with a very solid mid- to uptempo groove.
LITTLE ANN: Going Down A One Way Street * R, VG++, H20 damaged labels, 25.- Euro, on hold
David Hamilton produced Det's soul gem by Little Ann "Bridgeforth", who recorded a whole LP in the 60's, that remained unreleased until UK based record company Kemnt obtained the mastertapes.
There are records, that leave a big question mark in my brain. What the f*ck is an "Untouchable Machine Shop"? And how does a name like this can get connected to an extraordinaire free funk track? Anyway, this is a fantastic funk record driven by an unstoppable wah-wah-guitar, heavy beats and raunchy basslines. Clean playing copy with barely noticable surface marks.
DIAMOND JOE: How To Pick A Winner * SANSU, drill hole in lbl, VG+, 25.- Euro, sold
One of these Allen Toussaint productions that just get you from bar 1 to te end. Distinctive hard hitting rhythms paired with the gritty voiuce of Diamond Joe. Definitely one of the finest 45s from the rich vaults of the Crescent City. Flipside has a larger scratch and grades VG.
DIAMOND JOE: The ABC Song / Look Way Back * DEESU, promo, M-, 25.- Euro
Excellent, hard hitting Nola funky soul produced by Allen Touissant and Marshall Sehorn. Diamond Joe recorded some fabulous 60's side for Sansu records and is surely one of the most underrated vocalists from the the Big Easy.
HEYWOOD CASH: Give It Up * EPIC, promo, M-, 25.- Euro, sold
Terry Woodford and Clayton Ivey on the controls for this masterpiece of 70's dance soul. Yes, of course, the demo is way more common than the issue copy with the fantastic "You're Messing Up A Good Thing" on the flipside, but it's ten times cheaper too.
JOHNNY JONES AND THE KING CASUALS: Soul Poppin' * BRUNSWICK, VG to VG+, drill hole in lbl, 20.- Euro, on hold
An intense funky instrumental with Johny Jones picking some funky lines out of his guitar and surely a prime example of a Blues player getting funky. Before he recorded three great records for Brunswick and Peachtree Jimi Hendrix was a member of his band and you can surely hear Jimi's influence in Johnny Jones' guitar style.
JAMES CARR: The Dark End Of The Street * GOLDWAX, VG++, label glued on off-centre, 20.- Euro, on hold
In 1967 Dan Penn and Chips Moman wrote "The Dark End Of The Street" for James Carr and for many soulfans, this is the most important record of the classic era. Deep soul never sounded more lonesome and lost than on this groundbreaking recording. Every home should have one is a lousy seller catchphrase, but in this case, I feel it's justified. Label is glued on off-centre, the record is NOT off-centre.
THE OLYMPICS: Girl, You're My Kind Of People * WARNER BROTHERS, promo, VG-, 20.- Euro
The crossover soul flipside to Bob Relf's Northern classic "Blowin' My Mind To Pieces" performned by the Olympics with a slight change in the lyrics, they replaced "Wonderful" with "People". Anyway, great record by a veteran group, that had big hits with novelty R&B tunes during the 50's and 60's. Record has multiple surface marks causing some pops and crackles, nothing too bad and priced accordingly. Check the soundbyte before placing an order!
JAMES BOUNTY: Auction On Love * REDDOG, M-, 15.- Euro, on hold
It's beyond me, why someone spends money on all these reissues flooding the market currently, while originals of this calibre are as cheap as they are.
THE CORNER BOYS: Gang War (Don't Make No Sense) * NEPTUNE, VG++, 10.- Euro
Funky edged dancer, that doesn't break the bank and another proof, that you don't have to be a sheik or premier league player to afford quality soul records.
To order: PM me . Records will be reserved on a strict first come, first served basis.
No matter how big your order is, 7.- Euro flat unless you want registered postage!
I recomend registration for all orders over 50.- Euro for additional cost of 3.- Euros.
The list is not really sorted, so you find Funk, next to Northern and R&B next to Modern. Prices are in Euro!!!
Grading: Goldmine grading system - M- / VG++/ VG+ / VG / VG- etc.

The crossover soul flipside to Bob Relf's Northern classic "Blowin' My Mind To Pieces" performned by the Olympics with a slight change in the lyrics, they replaced "Wonderful" with "People". Record has multiple surface marks causing some pops and crackles, nothing too bad and priced accordingly. Check the soundbyte before placing an order!
