Last copy on Discogs went for 400 quid in June 22. And the one before in May was $650. So there are infact people paying these prices. However, the copies before these two sold for 250/300 quid max. So there seems to be a rise in demand from whatever part of the world.

I'm told that the b side is driving demand. Even so, it's not that rare !

Sounds reasonable, B-side is a nice lowrider sound.

It used to be shit-rare and four figures before a few NOS boxes were found and price went down. I guess even though many of these unplayed copies are in circulation demand is higher than supply these days.

Big spin for Butch back in the day. Then a few turned up. Great record and still unexposed to the masses so hardly surprising people are waking up to it.

Prices are going bonkers just lately. Most sellers seem to want top dollar ie what the record just sold for on Manship’s auction or eBay. Records should be priced to sell - if they're too expensive, they won’t sell

I'm curious - how many copies made up "the whole remaining stock"? Hundreds? Guesswork on your part, hearsay or fact? And did Keb or Ian Clarke play it first at the 100-Club-Stafford Siamese-twin thingy? I reckon it was Clarky. I always associate it with the latter from the 80s.

Keb as far as I know, think he may have got Gary's?.  I guess we will never know the full amount found but it was well into three figures, enough has been said about the find in the past.  I don't remember Clarkie playing it at all TBH.

If I remember right......I bought one when the stock was found............think it was about £50 to £60............I'm sure I've seen it as low at £30 at one point.........really surprised its jumped up to the prices noted above............sold mine a long while ago now and struggled to get my money back on it!

As mentioned earlier, it was a Richard Searling exclusive at Wigan Casino covered as the Embers. I remember thinking this is a record I will never be able to own. I was so pleased to be able to get one when they turned up in quantity.  Full on Northern Soul with a superb slower tempo flip.

I would never sell my copy and a lot of copies will be staying in serious collections! So market forces push up the price!

I think one of the guys who contacted Clem Price used to sell on here? I bought an acetate of Joe King - Speak On Up from him on here, which has changed hands a few times since. all that Prix stock came from Clem Price, or as you say his estate.

Hope all is well Chalky

Just checked my inmails on here, I dont seem to have the original in mails about buying the Acetate Ive mentioned above but I do have this:

Prix label owner Clem Price, The label address on the acetate is Harmonic Sound Production 1482 Felix Drive which is a different address to what appears on the release Prix record. Harmonic Sound Productions is the in house production company the song is produced by the label owner and written by the artist who was a staff musician. So it is a publishing promo as the address being different to the label address etc. I'm reliably told the guy this came from had all the tapes and master record plates etc.

So all this chap had all the original tapes and master record plates, and quanity of Joe King, Eddie Ray & Royal Esquires 45's, which is where the Eccentric Soul boys got the Demo version etc of 'You Got Me' Eddie Ray etc...   I assume

The quantity came via 'Brooklyn Born' Joe Giattino & Rich Rosan. Same people that things like Frederick Hymes, Four Voices Gold label, San Francisco TKO's, Toby Bullard etc came from.

Rich came up to me at a record show back then, he was after large quantity of 78's. Didn't matter if they were cracked or broken he said he wanted to melt them. First thing I thought was he wanted to convert the shellac into French polish.

Yep they found the widow (I think) and all the Prix titles were still in the garage in quantity. I got all my Prix stuff off of those guys. Before that it was very rare and a late Wigan spin for RS as others have said.

Always been one of my favourite records.  I have a cassette of oddfellows 1st anniversary where Gary Rushbrooke introduces it as the embers , playing the part of the  fool before Stafford recorded feb 1983 ,  if anyone can help i would love to post it for everyone to listen to but have no idea how to ( have it in cd format). Also I have the acetate that keb had cut with the Delcos on the flip. Will dig it out and post a picture when I get time . As always great to read all the posts with snippets of information

In the Oddfellows Anniversary video, Keb plays it downstairs as The Embers and then say "you can have I for £1000!!"

As good a record as it gets.......100mph Northern Soul that has everything 👌

Cheers,

Mark R

Great memories,  I was stood behind the camera man along with Dave Wheeler in his hi-vis orange dungarees as Keb played it.

And as we went back to the main room Ally caught Dave for an interview (which can be seen on the video)

and i ran off paranoid lol Before he could collar me lol..

always brilliant how we remember certain things in our lives lol

theres probably numbers wise as many of these in circulation as danny moore and way more than clara hardy.. some of the prix things are really tough sells these days.. but the law seems to be.. if you cant just grab one straight away just throw a stack of money at it

Royal Esquires one of the worst deals I ever made. Was offered a copy @500, bought it straight away thinking I got a real bargain. 4 weeks later the NOS copies flooded the market. Eventually turned out seller (well known DJ) knew about the NOS copies and tried to get rid of his copy before price would fall. Not mad about this but it still leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Thanks. First time I've seen that as an abbreviation.

NAP, WOL, XOL, DHL, NOS can be wondering abreviations for "younger" social networks junkies but with your seniority and authority as a long timer crate digger in dusties or on lists I am surprised you missed that one Russ 😉 But the good news IMO is that it's never too late to learn something new. I know I am when I do. Fresh feel !

Haha - as you say, never too old to learn something new. The term 'new old stock' of course I knew, but don't recall seeing it in abbreviated form (NOS). Or maybe the old brain cells are letting me down. Now I must go and take the laundry out of the oven.
