I’ve a feeling this thread is going to be controversial…

Would like to hear justification from promoters of such events going head to head with long established official weekenders .

Don't see them as a problem, good weekenders will survive. People tend to flit to these fringe events in the afternoon. Always been pubs near to the main event running ns events to pull in customers.

doesn't have to be, think those days are long gone

was just after views/takes from the membership, as these events do have an effect on site, be it the event guide and such

be interesting as well hearing from those involved in the major 'official' ones as well as the 'satellite' ones, you involved 'officially' in the major one Andy yep?

cant speak for any, except the 'Charity Soul' event.     these have run in conjunction with the weekenders,  for years.  (George hotel, as well.... i think).    Bridlington is always popular, at the Windsor hotel.  it does nothing to detract from the Spa... its good to get out n about,  you have a wristband, youve paid, so free to roam the town and do what you please.     same goes for the Buck Inn, Whitby.     its always rammed, always popular , but most of all,  it raises money, for something that every man may need , at some point.      Most come and go,  but spend most of their time in the 'main event'  and go home happy.   whats not to like ?

Yes indeed Mike . Spinning a few at the Whitby Weekender at the Pavillion and their satellite venue , The Rifle Club .
Good luck to the others particularly if they are raising money for registered charities . In the main they seem to be social get togethers in pubs without dance floors , some playing ‘vinyl’ others cds . Whitby for instance becomes a ‘Soultown’ for the weekend and the other events also cater for those who have missed out with the official weekender at The Pavillion being sold out .

I'd agree with Andy.

Big budget pavillion sold out more often than not.

Doubt the promoter gets a cut from beer or catering sales. Perhaps somebody knows different?

A few pubs benefit from the pub crawl to the venue, with some offering background music and others a dj.

Nice to mix and match in my experience.

Only turns sour if the main event is not sold out.

Best weekend at whitby got to be goth weekend....those folks know how to dress to impress!

satellite weekenders ?

noticed a few what I guess could be called 'satellite' weekenders happening at Whitby this weekend

https://www.soul-source.co.uk/calendar/2-weekenders/

these sort of events seem to be evolving/happening more and more over time

wondering what's the members take on them?

thanks for takes so far

a question is

is there ever any collaboration between the official 'weekender' and the satellite ones?

official 'satellite' events?

also looking at our event guide, any thoughts on the best way forward to deal with such satellite  weekenders

as they are beginning to have an effect on our weekender guide section?

For the July Whitby Weekender there’s an official satellite venue at The Rifle Club , hosted on behalf of Goldsoul by Gary Smith .
5-10 min walk from the Pavillion and has Friday night , Sat night and Sunday afternoon/evening sessions .

Admission is included in the Goldsoul Weekender ticket and for those just wishing to only attend the Rifle Club rarer soul & x-over sessions , separate tickets at £15 (for all three sessions) can be obtained from Gary Smith direct in adv . No pay on the door .

In previous years there’s also been an official free admission Weekender warm up on Thurs at the Fisherman’s Club and over the weekend rarer Northern & 6ts RnB at The Met Bar (for those who had Goldsoul Weekender tickets ) .
