Whoever sold TSU Toronadoes will be disappointed, gone for more than that on here recently

I think I read somewhere that it's not a good recording, something about the sound quality on all copies? Is that right?

On trip to States about 18 years ago, found a Mint 20 count box in a record shop in Texas of the TSU Toronadoes.  There was five of us on the trip and we all bought four each, think they were $50 dollars each.  It booked at about £150 then, so we thought $50 was a good price.  When we came back I really struggled to sell the record.......started at the £150 mark but ended selling them for about £80 tops.  I guess it wasn't 'in demand' then?  Kept one for myself but ended up selling that about 7 years ago.  Book price was still at £150.........again struggled to sell it and got about £125 for it I think.  I was really surprised to see it being sold at the £400 plus mark over the last 6 months or so........and it actually selling fast!  Is it getting played somewhere?   Is the demand really there?  Nice record but I always thought it was OK.....not great.....but that's just my opinion.

agreed!!!

That ties in with my recent 'Cheap 45, now expensive' thread where I was asking if current demand and increased prices for certain tunes is down to plays out? I mentioned Oscar Perry 'I got what you need', Maxine Brown 'Let me give you my loving', Chimes 'Beginning of my life' - didn't really get any answers as to whether they are getting played out, where the demand has come from etc

I'm with you Chris.......not involved in the 'Northern' scene so much these days, haven't been for a number of years now, so I do get very surprised with some record prices these days.

With regards to Chimes 'Beginning of my life', this was very readily available 20 years ago.  Every record shop I went into in Chicago had copies for 50 cents.......again don't like the record but that's only my opinion again.  Is this really a £75 record?

To be honest.......I've been really thinking of selling up and cashing in lately due to some of the prices I've seen!

Where an asterisk or a number of them appear next to a sales listing, this indicates the same seller offering the 45 soon after an earlier listing. It doesn't mean the same seller across the years - just different people offering it up a second time after it not having sold, and often posting it again with a price reduction.

Obviously there will be other instances where a seller has listed an unsold disc a second, or perhaps even a third time, but these weren't obvious to pick up (unless I also made a note of the seller, which I thought was taking this a bit too far)

Where sellers stated the 45 had been sold, this is marked on the listing. This doesn't mean these are the only sales of the disc on Soul Source. Rather, these are the only listings where a seller has bothered to say it has been sold.

So, 84 listings in total with prices ranging from £90 (for a copy with some poor sound reproduction) to an eye-watering £500 'today'.

now Ted how did you miss this lot ????

Funny I went to Chicago in 1999 and like you say could have had as many 50 cent copies of Chimes as I could have carried - ended up with only about 4-5. Didn't reckon much to it at the time but has grown on me over the years and I can see why folks like it now - would be interested to hear if it is being played out

Maxine Brown big fave on the mainstream scene and always has been.  Chimes was only a couple of years ago give or take it was still £15, is still up for sale every week by some chancer wanted 100 quid plus.  TSU T, same with Chymes, the crossover, chill out venues are on the rise and these records are ideal for those.

They are all floor fillers, guaranteed and for not a lot of money in comparison to the big ticket items.
