Mark Bicknell Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 As Jimmy Love said on his Josie 45 'There Are Two Sides To Every Story' and just to even up things with the other thread going on here about what you dislike about the scene, i thought it would even the balance to perhaps highlight the good stuff for a change so it's a simple question......"What Do You Most Like about the scene"? For me it's about the records, the fundimental most important thing of why we are all here in the first place, those wonderful, beautiful pieces of vinyl that can change moods at a flick of a turntable switch, take us to another place out of our normal everyday situations, also is the scene just about the club culture or is it far more than being about the weekends, travel, friendship, dancing, collecting etc.? I feel the scene and the efforts of everyone connected with it at times takes a bit of a battering so perhaps it's time to take stock of something which should be cherished, protected, celebrated, enjoyed and held in far higher regard than it sometimes is..............over to you! Regards - Mark Bicknell.
Guest mobbsy Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 we really get on well with each other in Norwich
Guest in town Mikey Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 You smell that? Do you smell that? Talc son. I love the smell of Talcum Powder in the morning. You know, one time we danced for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked to the bogs. The smell, you know that fresh summer fruits smell, the whole bog. Smelled like... victory.

Ged Parker Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 The sound of a record you didn't know hitting you like a tornado carrying you off and depositing you in a world that is forever changed, richer, more colourful and an altogether better place to be (or it will be when you finaly get hold of a copy). The tingle up your spine, the hair standing up on the back of your neck, the goosepimples on your arms from the sound of that long forgotten tune you just loved way back when the world was young and everything in it was, for you at least, a new discovery. The adrenelin hit as you hear the package thud on the doormat as you career down the stairs, the anticipation whilst wondering which one will it be? The look, the feel, the smell of 60's vinyl. The first notes, crafted so long ago but designed to hook you and boy have they, as they excellerate out of the Mission 820's as the tone-arm lowers onto your own personal holy grail you've waited 30 years to own.
Guest Bearsy Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Easy, the music the records the people the venues the buzz of it all when it comes together on a night out. Oh and listening to my ipod whilst driving and singing along to all my favourite tunes and seeing other drivers looking at me thinking why does he look so happy and they could never guess why. Bearsy

Modernsoulsucks Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 And I like people who when telling us they hate people who tell you what they hate can swoitch threads and enable a running gag. ROD

Rugby Soul Club Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 'Tis the best form of escapism amongst mundane reality....
Soulfreak Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 The chance to see the actual artists that made these great records, perform live and get some dues..... Roll on Prestatyn!!!
Guest Matt Male Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I love totally losing myself while dancing to a record. Every problem and care just slips away and for around 3 minutes it's just you, the music and the dancefloor. Unbeatable. I'm getting choked thinking about it. My other love is feeling a belonging to something older, greater and bigger than myself. It'll always be there.. i hope.

You got sick of that Chandlers yet Phil?
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 the music and records people you know and speak to enjoying themself as much as you and generally Northern soul all round

Regards - Mark Bicknell. QUALITY 6TS SOUL MUSIC MUSIC MARK!......................THATS IT!!!!!!!!!. Dont let the Political rantings of people on this (or any other site) EVER dis-hearten you from your first (and only love) The problem with Democracy is that we have to put up with people all day who talk all day about things they know nothing about! Now when I was a lad I used to go to a club called TTs Nightclub in a place called WALES.......................We never had oldies or newies........we just had good music.............. Good company..............Young and old all getting on.........perhaps it was my Imagination? I myself am new to the computer world and i must admit to being entertained (at first) by the main forum on this (and other sites)...but I prefer these times just to check out the collectors forum (look in yer box) as that is where the most positive and rewarding content is. Always about Soul music and not politics! Yours ............one of the other little 80s Mods from Ruthin.............
Scallybob Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 (edited) Records. I love 'em. Listening to them, looking at them, touching them and playing them. And the other great thing is hearing stuff I've never heard. Even more so when it's a cheapie and it's good. Bob Hinsley played Billy Young-The Sloopy at King George's the other week. I'd never heard it but I can't stop listening to it now! A tenner off JM then got an import copy on eBay for a fiver. Edited February 17, 2007 by ScallyBob
Pat Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Ged I couldn't agree with you more. We'd always loved the music but hadn't been to a nite for years and years until 1997. Since then it's as if I'm a teenager again until I look in the mirror of course. I still have to break off conversations to dash onto the dance floor. Amazing that it's been 38 years since I first fell in love with these sounds. Shall be at the Soul Cellar in Walsall tonight but no dancing for me as I fractured a toe 2 weeks ago.
Jordirip Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Shall be at the Soul Cellar in Walsall tonight but no dancing for me as I fractured a toe 2 weeks ago. Pat, I'll be there as well. I might recognise you by your walk. Jordi
