OK seeing as this has gone down rather well, I've dug out another Searling spot, this time from 1981, I promise I won't cut any of the modern out and I'll get it posted up later tonight. It won't be on my website because it's undergoing a change of server but it will be on a podcast site where you can listen directly. Give us an hour or two.

OK I know what I said but I am having to break my promise, I've just sat through half an hour of the worst Searling spot of all time and there is no way I am putting that on my website - Keni Burke, Curtis, Pages, and a load of horrendous disco type music, no 60's so far, I've scrapped that one and found another one which is a billion times better, from 79 - it includes the very first play ever of Can't Get Over These Memories for a start.

the 3 before 8 sounds f*cking great, especially Tobi Legend. the clapping, the atmosphere, no where these days comes close.

=======

leicester 2nd anniversary and warrington parr hall niters were the closest to the Wigan atmosphere since the casino closed...imo of course ..

the 3 before 8 at the end of an era is even more phenominal!!!

Yeah I don't have to put it on the website but I'm just not doing it!

Anyway, the one I am doing is better quality, has loads of brilliant northern and also several of your weird things so it'll be worth waiting for

Hi Rowley I talked to Tony Smith about that once he might know more, what pod cast or play list was it on.

It's actually "Whirlpool" by Marvelous Ray on Abner. It also turned up on Goldmines first Thelma cd as being "Caught in a whirlpool" by Pat Smith.

If you ever went to the Casino, or if you wanted to go but never made it, you'll love this...30 minutes of prime-time Richard Searling, and a couple of oldies from Keith Minshull - from the 7th anniversary - and the legendary 3 Before 8 from the 4th anniversary in 1977. The first part is in excellent quality but you will need to turn the volume way up. Look out for a spine-tingling Barbara McNair "You're gonna love my baby" in particular. The second part is not quite so good quality as I recorded it from the back of the hall on a portable mono cassette recorder, but it really picks up the atmosphere.

Cheers Pete,

These Pod casts were great. At the time of the Casino, I personally felt that the atmosphere was too commercial and did not want to queue like a football match queue. I chose to frequent other clubs such as Wakefield Unity Hall etc.

Like most old soulies, I wish I could turn the clock back and soak up the atmosphere again but have the appreciation that I have now.

Thanks for the pod casts.

Thanks for bringing this thread back up

I've enjoyed listening to this podcast 2nite

all those soul genres crossing feet relatively seamlessly, '77 before my time, but I remember the Oddies being a bit like this (a bit, not quite so successively, but near enough).

Made my night so thanks for that bump (no innuendo intended).

Thanks for that ! When I hear the clapping I'm there again!I've got a CD of a tape from a Saturday night in 1976, but wouldn't know how to put it on here.

At the time that was all most of us had to listen to, some dodgy cassette tapes and a few records!

I had one tape left by the time I got to Australia and when that broke I had nothing for years... until I re-discovered it again.

Nice one Pete :D

wow - cool!. top start to a weekend.

That reminds me, I'm sure there's a couple of tapes lying around, either I've got them or Neil has. They've got a mixture of Dj's on, RS, Brian Rae, Evo & Martyn Ellis from the casino, I'll do some investigating and dig them out I think. I've not played them for must be nearly 5/6 years..

Got my first request for tonight lined up too, Court Davis. I know Neil or Sean has it & I can't wait to hear it over a big system again..

Jayne.x. (all excited now!).

Hi Una

If you can make a cd of the tape I can easily guide you through the process of getting it onto the net, it's a bit boring though!

I've got it on CD already. By the way, listened to the "Oldies Oblivion" podcast today and you're right there were lots of long forgotten sounds. A few should remain so! But some just bring back so many memories! I enjoyed listening though.
