James Mays - Gotta Make a Move  b/w Nothing's as Bad as Being Lonely  Hue 377

Described on discogs as excruciating rare with just 4 or 5 copies known to exist. Unlikely as it may seem this 45 by ex- Van Dykes James Mays has tuned up. It doesn't seem to have ever been sold  and no file on You Tube. Strong dance cut and ballad.  My contact is not sure at what to value it.

It sold on eBay 20th August for £19 (demo)

I might post it as one of the "funniest" things I have ever read "excruciating" rare

Thanks Blackpool Soul

Someone is clearly trying to hype a record. I agree it's absurd describing a record as 'excruciatingly rare'. It's a nice record especially the baritone vocal on the ballad side. I tell my mate to keep it if its only £20.

A lesson . If something is rare and unknown as this is - it's not likely to be valuable. Maybe put it up on You Tube for people to judge.

John Manship lists this record in Catalogue of USA releases 7th edition at £50.

Thanks to the person who contacted me off-site.

Personally I don't think it's absurd to say something is excruciatingly rare. It's just a bit of poetic licence I think, a way of trying to relay the rarity of something on the written page.  Sometimes I think people are a bit quick to judge what others say, how they say it.

Anyway,.. The record in question is actually quite rare, it is true I believe that there are only a few known copies around. I remember coming across this record some years ago and speaking to a dealer about it (can't remember who now) and was told that it was probably worth a few hundred at that time. Whether this is right or not now I don't know. Maybe someone should ask JM, I would think if anyone, that he would probably know the answer to that question. I know he listed it at £50 in the 7th edition but that was 2016 and we all know how things move on. It is a really great tune though.

Another thing,.. just because a record sold for pennies, in this case £20, doesn't mean that's all it's worth, sometimes sellers don't know what they've got.
