Popular Post Andy Rix Posted March 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2022 This is such sad news ... but so pleased he finally got recognition, and royalties, from his legendary 45 thanks to Mark Bicknell I have a special connection to this 45 having first heard it on the 28 August 1980 in Skegness when Dave Raistrick played it as 'Roy Hamilton' ... I fell in love with it I pestered Dave and he finally agreed to sell it to me, in 1981, but I had one chance, as he had half-promised the 45 to Soul Sam, which meant a drive to a Sunday Notts Palais all dayer to hand over the £50 ... only problem was I couldn't drive and didn't have £50 .. but a nurse colleague, I was living in nurses residence at the time, drove me there and lent me the cash ... result So I covered it up as Don Gardner & The Chicago Hit Men - Gotta Find A Way .... inspired by Pat Brady having the General Assembly - Sensitive Mind - covered as Don Varner & The New York Soul Generation ... it sounded cool It soon became my No 1 sound .. and I soon lent it to Ian Clark who cut an acetate and then started playing it at Yate ... and Nigel Parker borrowed it a few years later when he was DJing at Bradford .. the rest, as they say, is history R.I.P Eric ...
