Wheelsville1 Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 With the fact that both Jessie James on shirley and the Arcades on triad are complete rip offs of Curtis Mayfield I'm the one who loves you.Do you think he was totally unaware of these recordings? Any thoughts on this. Chris. 1
The Yank Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 (edited) I have a feeling Curtis never heard of either 45. Triad was based in El Cerrito, California and besides KSOL (San Francisco) playing "The Soul P.W.', I can't find it getting airplay anywhere and it didn't get reviewed in any of the trade papers. The Jessie James 45 was a flop- no mention in the trades and no signs of airplay. On the other hand, it's possible he knew of both and had them pulled off the market. Thanks for the reply,i also see similarities between The Devotions Do do de dop and Curtis's Little young lover.
The Yank Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 (edited) Everytime I hear Willie Tee's "Teasin' You", I think of the Impressions' " It's All Right". Edited March 11, 2022 by The Yank
Chalky Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 The music business was and is a murky business. Dave Hamilton had no idea about Monique and her use of his backing. highly likely its the same for Curtis, he probably had other projects taking up his time. 1
Graham Anthony Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Don't forget that Curtis Mayfield did it himself with "You've been cheatin" and had to give Motown some of the publishing. Happened all the time and is still happening with the current Ed Sheeran court case. 2
Geeselad Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 There's a major Lance tune that's really similar to all three, can never recall the title, probably Curtis penned anyway.

I bet you're thinking of "Can't Satisfy" which is basically The Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart Of Mine" slowed down-
