Guest Johnny Mack Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Need a bit of help and advice - don't have Mr Manship's book and am a bit confusiated on this one Is the original on vinyl or styrene ? In the process of buying this one and am now unsure as to whether its the genuine article - I'm told this one is heavy vinyl. Anyone help me out on this please. Thanks John
Ady Potts Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 That's a boot John. The boots have the raised ridge like the Dave Newmans. Original is styrene with raised letter "S" in dead wax. pottsy

Thanks John I got burned on ebay on this a year ago, I bought it from some German seller and bought manship's bootleg guide 3 months later. Of course the guy wouldn't take it back (even though the picture was still up and it was not an og from the photo).

Thanks John Rule No.1 has got to be check BEFORE you buy. Then again, we've all been caught out in the excitement of the e-bay adrenaline rush before  . Hope it didn't cost you too much.... Wonder if the seller knew? A friendly e-mail might work if you ain't paid for it, seller might have thought it was orig too? As The Invitations said' Look On The Good Side', a reputable e-bayer will see you right (or should, IMO). Steve
Guest Johnny Mack Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Thanks for the advice - all ! In fairness, I did ask if it was an original in advance and got a confirmatory e-mail saying it was - what I couldnt remember was vinyl or styrene and that was playing on my mind ,fortunately in this case. Contacted the seller today. Seems they had bought it as an original some time ago. No money has changed hands and they have accepted that a mistake may have been made. Can't be fairer than that. Time to buy Mr Manship's re-issue guide, methinks that may be a wise investment going forward ! Take care John Rule No.1 has got to be check BEFORE you buy. I had the reverse of this, bought what I thought (and was told) was a boot, decided to sell it and wait for a real un. I had it in my sales box for about 18 months, that well known double act ( with impecable taste) from Manchester realised my mistake and had it away, never lost any money but I had a real one all the time I bet this has happened quite a few times but people dont like admitting it. BH I had a reverse situation once too. I bought a moovers "someone to fulfill my needs" on deep city from a UK seller (I'm in the US). There was no photo in the auction. I sent it back as a bootleg because the label on that totally looks like a bootleg (it's like all block text with no deep city logo). The seller was like "I didn't know it had been booted" and gave my money back. I found out later that it WAS an original. I don't remember who it was, but I apologize to whoever it was if they're on here. I wish I still had the title, still need it.
