Emjaygee Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Looking through my JM Bootleg guide, issue 3 this weekend as i was sorting through a couple of boxes of records and got a bit confused. Is it a fact that all Styrene has stick on labels that you can feel with your finger nail? The reason i ask is that i was just educating myself and thought i would compare the JM guide with some of my boot legs and identify the differences strated in the book. When i went to check my Johnny hampton on Dotty's i got a bit confused. The guide stated that the original was yellow label moulded over vinyl and that there was a look a like boot that was styrene. Mine has a moulded label but can see a matrix stamp. As i said i always thought it was a boot but couldn't apply all the criteria in the guide. Any help appreciated. Mark.
Gene-r Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 The lookalike Johnny Hampton bootleg is, in fact, vinyl. Not sure about a matrix stamp though. The styrene bootleg is totally different in appearance; frst the label is credited "Dotty's FROM DETROIT (the original didn't have the last two words). The artist is credited as JOHN HAMPTON (not Johnny), and "Not My Girl" (as far as I know) is on both sides. Hope this helps. Gene

Then "Nashville Music [altho doesn't look like "Music"!!] stamp , then "95" scratched in. Same markings on other side except it's "345A". Just check that against your copy. ROD

Modernsoulsucks Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Ta Dave, that's cleared up that mystery after thirty-odd years!! I thought I'd read once that the stamp was "Nashville Music" and just thought I had bad eyesight whenever I came across it on different 45s. ROD
