Daved Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 I even love his early stuff pre Brunswick. OK it's not northern soul (maybe not soul) but they're still great records. Perhaps Reet Petite should be added to the list for a laugh.

Jumpinjoan Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 "WHAT YOU GONNA DO ABOUT LOVE" Is, without doubt, THE best tune he recorded. Loads, Joan x
Guest Adam G Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Can I have the whole of the Beautiful Day LP its probably one of the finest soul LPs ever Adam
Mace Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 'Lonely life' on early orange Brunswick. Similar in style to Freddie Houston 'If I had known' it's a killer tune (if you like that sort of stuff) Get one quick while it's still cheap!!!! Mace
Mark Bicknell Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 I'll add a little bit of Lavern Baker to the mix here.....love the duet 'Think Twice' fantastic record does this count...lol Also there is a brilliant X-rated version which has to be heard to be believed, Lavern asks Jackie if he likes chocolate ice cream and invites him to lick it.....wonderful stuff. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Rotherham Soul Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 love them all but my fave is Lonely Teardrops While sufferibg from insomnia one night i stayed up untill the small hours and watched a repeat of an early Ed Sullivan show with Jackie performing this and his dance routine was breathtaking unfortunately i didn't record it .........Andrew link Saw the same programme ,one of my fave Jackie Wilson tracks. It was on the B side of the re-issue of higher and Higher in the 80's. Incidentally the perfomance on the Ed Sullivan show was recorded in the 60's With his dance routine you can see where we got the idea from
Guest Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 "Whatcha gonna do about love" & "It only happens when I look at you" These 2 do it for me every time in a word "Genius"

Incidentally the perfomance on the Ed Sullivan show was recorded in the 60's With his dance routine you can see where we got the idea from link it was whilst performing Lonely teardrops in Las Vegas 1975 that he collapsed your spot on about his dancing even the likes of James Brown, Elvis michael Jackson and Prince copied some of his moves (i've got a head full of nonsence facts) ...........Andrew
Winnie :-) Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I was going to mention that one.. the 'proper' version is great and the X-rated one just cracks me up Rach link ========= Nogsy played this to me about 4 years ago.....very Derek and Clive :-) Winnie:-)
Daved Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I've just listened to "Watcha Gonna Do About Love" for the first time in ages. I never really struck me playing the LP before. Good track but not one of his best imo.
Daved Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 "Just Call My Name" however, from the Nobody But You Lp is a real choon and a half!
Guest Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 it was whilst performing Lonely teardrops in Las Vegas 1975 that he collapsed your spot on about his dancing even the likes of James Brown, Elvis michael Jackson and Prince copied some of his moves (i've got a head full of nonsence facts) ...........Andrew link A must read is Lonely teardrops, the unedited version. Can't choose just one of Jackie's songs as a favourite. Gaye
oldsteve woomble Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 It Only Happens.......................When I Look At You... Unbeatable!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I know I didn't include it in the list above (I was trying to stick with the singles!!) but I have to say that Don't You Know That I Love You off the Beautiful Day LP is one of my faves!!!!!!!!! John

Guest Tommy Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I like his "Open the door to your heart" on the "Higher & Higher" L.P.
Steve Edgar Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I like his "Open the door to your heart" on the "Higher & Higher" L.P. link Agree with this.. mate ov mine played this in a spot and it sounded ace!. Although I voted for "Haunted House" in poll, I could pick so many from his list of outstanding tunes, someone mentioned flip side "Im Travelling On" been spinning this a bit lately and love it.. another side I love is his flip of "Ive Learned about life" the stunningly soulful "Nobody But you" (guaranteed to get me back in good books wid the lass after an argument) Steve
Guest Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Stop Lying from the Soul Galore LP. Fantastic tune. Gordy
Guest mattmale Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 (edited) This might get me lynched but i've always considered 'because of you' a very overrated record. I just don't like it at all. Anyone else share this heresy? Matt Edited January 7, 2005 by mattmale
Steve Edgar Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 This might get me lynched but i've always considered 'because of you' a very overrated record. I just don't like it at all. Anyone else share this heresy? Matt link IMO it IS overated, the man done some ace stuff, but I'd have "Because Of You" way down the list! Steve
Dave Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 This might get me lynched but i've always considered 'because of you' a very overrated record. I just don't like it at all. Anyone else share this heresy? Matt link Not just overrated, but over bloody played and all!! Yours in Heresy, Dave PS "Whispers" is the one for me. and quite like "Nothing but Blue Skies"
Citizen P Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Have to agree, Because Of You ain't a bad record, it's just that the easy option brigade have done it to death. And there are so many other great JW's to play Tony
