Tomangoes
A few smokers back then.... 1975...a year before my entry into NS...glad the platforms had gone by then. Winstanley looks happy. I wonder if he chose "the few". High waister checked breeks....can only remember plain colours myself. Must have been made to measure. Ed Link to comment Social source share
Merve
Was this a nighter or just staged for the press? It looks wrong with people just stood watching others in the middle of the floor, the fashions sported by the watchers look very mainstream too, (weren't granny sandals the rage for girls in 75 ?) Edit Could just be me of course !!!! Edited January 20, 2022 by Merve Afterthought 1 Link to comment Social source share
Ratt
Not just you Merve.....it doesn't look right at all for me. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Paul R
Definitely a Wednesday or Friday normal night. Chart soul early on then Northern later. 3 Link to comment Social source share
Ratt
Not one beer towel tucked into a waistband. And not one person who looks to be 'out their tree'. Totally unfamiliar to me. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Frankie Crocker
Good topic for a thread. I’ve seen these photos so often, I’m very familiar with them. On closer examination, there’s some with badges that weren’t around in 1975 perhaps? The scene is obviously staged, but this surely couldn’t happen during an All Nighter? Some of the clothing looks spot-on for the 70’s but not exactly All Nighter wear. Can anyone in the photos come forward and enlighten us? 2 Link to comment Social source share

Its more 1975 night out at the local disco wear rather than nighter wear. I've seen a couple of these photos before but not all of them. It just looks staged & certainly not at a nighter. 3 Link to comment Social source share

This photo looks a bit like the cast of ‘Soul Boy’ mucking around between takes. Perhaps more disco-wear on show here than normally seen at an All Nighter. 2 Link to comment Social source share
Fish Fingers
Everything about it looks wrong.... There is no emotion showing - which doesn't sit right for a soul event. It looks like a cross between a teen disco and Stepford Wives. Promotion for 'Footsee' maybe? The guy looks like he is 'performing some moves' - but to something not very soulful judging by the numb look on the bystanders faces. 1 Link to comment Social source share

He wasn't an allnighter goer at the time. He had attended once that I remember, but certainly regular at the Friday night sessions. Paul 2 Link to comment Social source share
Ratt
Allnighter people, or regular nighter people were a special breed. And their were a lot of us from up and down the land. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Woodbutcher
You've only got to look at the footwear to answer this ... 3 Link to comment Social source share

Ezzie Brown
i had stopped going by the time these photos were taken..........i didnt go to wigan after early 75..........x 1 Link to comment Social source share
Petesi
I went to Wigan from 75-79 Saturdays to start , and then the monthly Friday "Oldies" all nighter`s and I can honestly say I never saw or met any birds (Ooops ,Sorry girl`s) dressed like these at Wigan period , it was mainly flat sandals, white socks, flared 3/4 length skirts, T shirts and parallels or baggies . So a deffo staged night imo and probably around 73/74 looking at the garb they are all wearing. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Ratt
Petesi......those were the days my friend.......and 79 just about saw the end of them. Quite like that anyway. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Ephraim
Any recommendations for films that are accurate representations of the northern soul scene? I wasn’t personally around so wouldn’t have known that these photos were staged. Link to comment Social source share
Maxwell
Same old batch of photos. Midweek nights, makes the casino look like a youth club. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Quite like that anyway. Sure were Ratt, and that`s why I can never quite understand the posters that keep moaning that "Todays scene is not what it was, and we need to move with the times to get more younger people interested in it" Well I think most of the newbees and youngsters interested in real northern soul can still get a taste of what is was like at the right clubs and if you doubt me just go and have a night out any of the following ...The Grosvenor rooms, The Northern line, The Kings Hall, St Ives reunions, Kingsway hall and plenty of others up and down that still capture the spirit of what it was like first time round because what`s old hat to many of us will be new and exciting to any newcomers to the scene 1 Link to comment Social source share
Kenb
I don't know if the Pic's were staged or not, or mid-week or not...perhaps shortly after the doors opened at 12.30. The badges aren't photo-shopped. These (most) same pics turn up advertising the 2nd Anniversary in 1975. Link to comment Social source share
Ratt
You surprise me Kenb. In that you might believe, even slightly, that this set of pictures with their dress code could have been from an allnighter. Even at opening time, I never saw the likes of it. I know that's no guarantee, but surely they are staged.....or from mid-week. Now that you have made your comment I am more and more interested to learn more. Maybe my memories are shot to pieces. Hiya, I don't say they are from an all-nighter. I say they advertised the 2nd anniversary All-Nighter (1975).
