I bet Brookes & Jerry-I Got What It Takes is in there.

Get over it Andy, it's a 50p record.

And wearing a rugger shirt to a Wigan all-nighter isn't what you do, by the way.

Haven't bought Record Collector in about 5 years, got sick of the Beatles/Queen/U2 bias...

So what were his choices?

Any chance of a scan of the article?

Same here but started buying it again as they had a few 50/60s articles that were nice, not soul though they are too wrapped up in this Prog/Psych/Punk thing to bother about rare soul records, anyway here's the article on Mr Peebles

I read it, he went on about selling all his vinyl due to not having enough space (that old chestnut....) and about how many thousands of cds he has. He does smooth fm now up north.

I think that record collector can still be okay-it's definitely a better read than Mojo with the likes of Dylan/Johnny Cash and the Beatles on repeat every couple of months!

The man reminds me of sugar coated almonds. I've been offered these a few times at weddings & on the surface they look OK.

But after a few seconds you have to split them out as they in fact awful.

As a youngster his Piccadilly soul 261 LP was one of my first LP purchases, and it put me onto a lot of good music. He has always had a chip on his shoulder though about rare records. Doesn't he say somewhere in there that everything has come out on CD now? I think not.

Not too sure about that Steve. What really annoys about people like him is that he has been in a position to influence things and chose not to. A safe pair oh hands with a Blue Peter voice.

Right now I'm listening to "William Hunt - Would You Believe?" - a truly awesome record that rips at your soul.

Could he have played?.....Yes

Would he have played it?....No.

Yes Yes I realise that, it's just as a youngster that was one of the first LPs I bought - and I liked it at the time.To your point and without sounding too gobby many of us have forgotten more about soul music than he knows about it....
