Jive Talkin' at wigan casino

i know a lot is attributed to WC that never was...but has/did anyone hear the Bee Gee's Jive Talkin' played in 1975 at WC -as an acetate? 

(probably unknown as The Bee Gee's).

A retired one might. I played the Ovalteenies at the end of a gig once and it went down a treat

don't forget after their late 60's success The Bee Gee's had been in the doldrums (almost untouchable by the Record Co's). So although we immediately think Night Fever now, it didn't exist then.

Nobody would have been running around saying 'that's the Bee Gee's' isn't it.

Therefore you may hardly have give it a notice, put 2+2 together, thought twice, missed it, if it did get a debut in 1975...even for a moment.

maybe the way the demo was released played a part?

I heard that was a mecca spin, definitely big in the New York clubs, paradise garage ect.

played at samanthas, a JV spin if I remember correctly

just listened to jive talkin on u tube, no way would that record fit in with the sounds being played at wigan.

Can't recall Jive Talkin but can remember 5000 Volts I'm On Fire getting spun in the main room at WC , a quick exit and into Mr Ms

I remember Makes You Blind along with I'm on Fire both being played at our local disco and treating them as ok to dance to, but I don't think I heard either at Wigan. Mind you with Joe 90 getting air time I'd fully expect those two to have done as well, even if only briefly before everyone moved on.

I'm on fire instrumental was definitely played briefly until it hit the charts.

99% certain it got a spin at Blackpool Mecca as well

Seems like people were keen to tie in Wigan to Saturday night fever. Wasn't there a common false rumor that Travolta went to station road to learn how to dance? When in actual fact it was Arthur mullard.

I heard it was Robert Stigwood who came to Wigan , liked what he saw (working class kids living for the weekend) but decided to give it a stateside setting. Makes more sense as Stigwood was a U.K resident.

Wrt Jive Talkin’, Not sure I get this? Jive Talkin’ was 1975, and Saturday Night Fever was 1978. It may well be Stig visited WC (although I doubt it).

I'm still sure I heard talk of it being played. Not sure if it was just a bullshite whisper that got blown up to a passed around story in the way that can happen. It doesn't need to have been at one of the nighters either.....I think the casino also had those mid-week things as well....although I never got to one.

Just fake news. Somebody alleging they’ve done something, then linking that to a load of utter tosh as there never was any demand for Bee Gees songs on the northern soul scene, let alone at The Casino. Totally laughable. Just who was the faker who wrote this garbage?

you may be correct. I agree the Bee Gee's songs prior to Jive Talkin' were not in demand anywhere really between 1971'ish-1975. But can you be sure 'as an acetate of an unknown group' this didn't get played?
