Count The Days

Recommended Posts

I don't know whether my ID requests with lyrics prompted this but I've also had a go at the lyrics, made much easier by The Yank's version. End of first verse is trickiest.

Count The Days - Magnetics - lyrics:

I thought my game was strong, and my hold on you was like iron(?)
But I found out that I was wrong, since you've been gone, whoa oh I count the days now

You told me that you loved me, but you found out from your friends
That I was two-timing you, whoa time and time again
Know whoa you know I did you wrong girl and I'm so sorry

(Monday) I tried to call you on the phone girl, (Tuesday) but you're never at home now (not Wednesday)
(Thursday) Wrote you a great big letter baby, (Friday) but it came back return to sender (___ hey girl)
Going all over this great big town, trying my best to find you around, whoa oh yeah well now

My bags are all packed, and I have my reservations
And um I guess I had my chance now, there's no time for desperation
Oh whoa you know I did you wrong girl, and I'm so sorry
All I can do is count the days, days yeah you've been gone

Woo-hoo [repeat to fade]

Just something that's been bugging me for a long time and today became the day to ask.

No prompting needed. Must add that surprisingly I can hear the lyrics better on a mobile phone than on a desktop or is that just because I now know them. 😄

I'd be interested to know what you think about my version of the lyrics a few posts up. I think yours is not 100% correct.

A couple of very minor alteratuions

I thought my game was strong, and my hold on you was tight but

Hi Andy - I didn't think we were gonna get that first line but I recon your right. I can remember the Lou Pride hand written lyrics you posted years back, that also put me right in one place. Thanks - Mick

Andy's version with minor changes/additions in bold and a few words moved to better match lead vocalist's phrasing:

Count The Days - Magnetics - lyrics

I thought my game was strong, and my hold on you was tight but
But I found out that I was wrong, since you've been gone, whoa oh I count the days now

You told me that you loved me, but you found out from your friends they said that

(Thursday) Wrote you a great big letter baby, (Friday) but it came back return to sender ( __ no sign hey girl)
Going all over this great big town, trying my best to find you around, whoa oh yeah well now

My bags are all packed, and I have my reservations and um
I guess I have my chance now, there's no time for cancellation
No whoa you know I did you wrong girl, and I'm so sorry

This is off-piste I know, but could this be connected ? Webcor

If I am wrong which I often am, then it's a good read 😇

The Webster Chicago Corporation was a maker of electronic equipment in Chicago, Illinois. Many products were sold under the brand name "Webcor". The product line included record changers, wire recorders and reel to reel tape recorders.

In the 1960s the firm began to face strong competition from German and Japanese imports. It was purchased by US Industries in 1967, and faded from prominence in the 1970s.

I don't think there is any connection but, if you want to dig deeper, you can type in Bob Abrahamian  or Sitting In The Park on Soul Sources Search.  This should bring up his radio shows. I know he did an interview with Lee McKinney of the Magnetics- Lee might have given some info on the label.

Amazing interview with the Magnetics.

They say the Sable sides were cut at Chess records with Richard Evans.

These people were making fantastic records, but it seems they just could not get any worthwhile promotion!

At least they are appreciated by the Northern Soul fraternity.

I'm guessing people already know this, but in case not, the backing track seems to be identical, the record number WM 767 and 101 are the same, and McClain shares writing credits on both records too. Obviously both on Sable too.

If it's new to you, the intro before the lyric kicks in will surely convince you!

Thanks for all the info guys, its been great finding out way more than just the lyrics.

I can remember John Poole telling me he was in talks with the Magnetics to appear at Prestatyn and for a split second I didn't know which Magnetics I would of preferred. Lets be honest Lady in Green, Heart your made of stone and (Volumes) Aint Gonna give you up are all top class. But can you imagine if it was the Magnetics were discussing here.
