Mick Boyle Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Struggling to work out many lyrics in this one. Its been in my top ten since time began. I know it was mentioned in Unfathomable lyrics back in 2016, any help would be appreciated. 1
Popular Post The Yank Posted November 9, 2021 Popular Post Posted November 9, 2021 (edited) Not 100% sure, but this is what I'm hearing- I thought my game on you was strong, and my hold on you was _____________________, But I found out I was wrong, that you've been gone, Oh, Oh I count the days now You told me that you loved me, but you found out from your friends, That I was two timing you, Oh, time and time again, You know I did you wrong and I'm so sorry , (Monday) I tried to call you on the phone, (Tuesday), but you're never at home, (Thursday) Wrote you a six page letter baby (Friday) But it came back return to sender. Going all around this big, big town, did my best to find you around (?) , Whoa My bags are all packed, and I have my reservations now I guess I had my chance now, There's no time for desperation, Oh you know I did you wrong girl and I'm so sorry All I can do is count the days you've been gone Woo hoo, woo hoo etc. etc. Edited November 9, 2021 by The Yank 4
Mick Boyle Posted November 9, 2021 Author Posted November 9, 2021 Wow - Thanks for the time and effort, I’ll have a listen later. Mick
SemiTone Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 (edited) I don't know whether my ID requests with lyrics prompted this but I've also had a go at the lyrics, made much easier by The Yank's version. End of first verse is trickiest. Count The Days - Magnetics - lyrics: I thought my game was strong, and my hold on you was like iron(?) But I found out that I was wrong, since you've been gone, whoa oh I count the days now You told me that you loved me, but you found out from your friends That I was two-timing you, whoa time and time again Know whoa you know I did you wrong girl and I'm so sorry (Monday) I tried to call you on the phone girl, (Tuesday) but you're never at home now (not Wednesday) (Thursday) Wrote you a great big letter baby, (Friday) but it came back return to sender (___ hey girl) Going all over this great big town, trying my best to find you around, whoa oh yeah well now My bags are all packed, and I have my reservations And um I guess I had my chance now, there's no time for desperation Oh whoa you know I did you wrong girl, and I'm so sorry All I can do is count the days, days yeah you've been gone Woo-hoo [repeat to fade] Edited November 9, 2021 by SemiTone 2

No prompting needed. Must add that surprisingly I can hear the lyrics better on a mobile phone than on a desktop or is that just because I now know them.

I don't think there is any connection but, if you want to dig deeper, you can type in Bob Abrahamian or Sitting In The Park on Soul Sources Search. This should bring up his radio shows. I know he did an interview with Lee McKinney of the Magnetics- Lee might have given some info on the label. Edited December 21, 2021 by The Yank

Tomangoes Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Just goes to show, a great voice, great melody, great beat and rhythm....and you can sing incohesive words that still sound great! Like the "pub singer" who can sing. Ed 3

They say the Sable sides were cut at Chess records with Richard Evans. These people were making fantastic records, but it seems they just could not get any worthwhile promotion! At least they are appreciated by the Northern Soul fraternity. Edited December 22, 2021 by D9 Ktf
Seano Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 I'm guessing people already know this, but in case not, the backing track seems to be identical, the record number WM 767 and 101 are the same, and McClain shares writing credits on both records too. Obviously both on Sable too. If it's new to you, the intro before the lyric kicks in will surely convince you! 1 1

Mick Boyle Posted December 23, 2021 Author Posted December 23, 2021 Thanks for all the info guys, its been great finding out way more than just the lyrics. I can remember John Poole telling me he was in talks with the Magnetics to appear at Prestatyn and for a split second I didn't know which Magnetics I would of preferred. Lets be honest Lady in Green, Heart your made of stone and (Volumes) Aint Gonna give you up are all top class. But can you imagine if it was the Magnetics were discussing here. Hard choice - Mick 2
