Hi! Sooty from Cambridge here! Just trawling the net and found several references to me going back to 2004 coming from this site....nice1!

I ran St Ives for 4 memorable All Nighters in the late 90's with 3 Maltings/Ely all nighters (sell outs!) which led to re-launching St Ives! I promoted a soul night at The City Stop for 4 years....every month...DJ'd at Blackburn...last hour....ritually for a couple of years too! Did a whirlwind tour of the Country from '93 to 2000...DJing @ 100club/Bretby/Winsford/Blackburn/Nottingham and many other venues that may well have been part of the re-launch of the scene in the 90's....and we had a blast!

A year after leaving the scene as a committed soulie I returned to make the 'Togetherness' videos at Kings Hall! Whilst it was a labour of love so to speak I did sell over 1500 vids worldwide and understand the pirated DVD has sold 1000's! I followed this video up by making the Wigan 30th Anniversary video by request of Kev & Richard....but I was disappointed with that personally! I had been abroad....flown for 2 days and arrived back in the UK on the day of the night! Drove up to Stoke and really don't remember much! I know the light used at Kings Hall was a killer for the video and certainly comparing both films u can see my attitude and interest was....erm....less exciting! The upside was tho' that the pirated copies of this one are dire.....the red light bleeds all over the film.....so don't buy 1! There was never an official DVD of any of those films....so be careful ok! I consider it an honour to be pirated tho'!x

Well...I still luv me Northern...have my colllection of about 200 records....and keep an eye on the scene! I managed to make St Ives last year and did a write up about it on my production company website:

Unfortunately the days of travelling the length and breadth of this Country DJing have finished....for 7 years I drove a 17 seater minibus each week end fuull of friends out for the craic....for me it was making up for what i missed as a kid.....whilst u lot were at Wigan et al in the 70's....I was in kids homes and borstal....playing Pain in my Heart by the poppies in the Borstal gym! So...no regrets and thank you all for making it special and memorable! I made 1000's of friends around the world and many have remained friends to date....thanks X

It is good to know that the momentum we all started in the 90's has developed into the busy scene it is today....and I hope it continues for all of you...X

Today I run 11 businesses worldwide and don't get much 'free' time to hit the decks or floor.....many DJ's will be happy about that! Nobody wanted to follow me as I dj'd on raw enthusiasm and excitement....irrelevant of the venue or policy....and it never failed!

Many thought i was out to take over drug supply or summink as i wos everywhere....but no....i was just like you lot were aged 14/15/16+.....as Eddie Parker said....GONE...and I was happy with it....aged 32!!

So...hope you don't mind the recent history lesson for 'newcomers' and intrusion of YOUR scene and I will not be coming back except to answer any replies out of courtesy ok! Keep on Keeping On....

....if u see any of these motors....it's me and give me a wave ok!! Northern sounds SUPERB in the Bentley.....ok in the SLR but u can't hear it 'cos the jet stream crashes against the windscreen too much....hehehe........the Excalibur would have been excellent for chilling out on the journey home....Sarn services and cool down at mine sunday afternoons.....happy days!X

...I've bought 1 record last year....Competition-Timmy Williams........does me head and had to have 1....played it at a kids party i did for friends in November....musical chair tune.....awesome!

Alas,most of the 45's I won off you on ebay have been traded on by now and so the collection grows.

Marvellous to see the scene trucking on....I popped into see Sean Capman DJing at Burton a couple of months back.....couldn't stay....walked in....on the stage...gave Sean a hug....walked out! Room went quiet and u could hear murmurings of...'that's Sooty'.....and waltzed out into me limo and off! Couldn't stay....nowhere to park and bringing Burton to a halt...poo!!!!!! I apologise to anybody who was hoping to say hello and stuff. I do feel bad in some ways especially after making the vid...friends ain't seen me to tell me how crap or good it wos!....I did get some emails asking for refurnds on the pirated DVD of the 30th....and i did...that's it...???!!!!!! However....i can't come back.....i'd be lost forever........X I'm glad your ok mate and look forward to speaking again soon ok!
