Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I'm Someone Who Cares - originals - soul 14385 refosoul ...a truly wonderful piece of music. I heard it properly for the first time, last year, playing on a tape in a bookshop in Austin, Texas and I felt quite ashamed that I had managed to go over 30 years without getting to know it better. It would only take a couple of brave souls to get behind it and it could be a Modern monster... TONE

Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 tell me more about the Christian PLique one because I REALLY liked that. "You're so vain - you probably think that song is about you...." ...Only joking m'dear - about the vanity, anyway. The song could very well be about you TONE
Guest mrs norman maine Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 thanks for these Sebastian, I don't think I've heard any of them before, some nice sounds there
Bjorn Nilsson Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Great selection! Have'nt heard them all yet but I'm sure I'll like them too. The Christian Plicque went on Ebay for just £20 a couple of months ago but I was totally broke as usual so I missed it.
Sebastian Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the comments everyone! Glad you like them. tell me more about the Christian PLique one because I REALLY liked that. A very obscure record, but still quite unknown so shouldn't be too hard to pick up for about £40-£50 if you find a copy. The one that went for £20-ish on eBay was cheap. A batch of copies did turn up a while back and were sold for $75-$100, they seem to have dried up now though. LeCam was a part of Major Bill Smith's stable of labels which also included Soft and Charay. Edited February 5, 2007 by Sebastian
Sebastian Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 And oh yeah, I got that Maurice Rodgers 45 recently from Lars Bulnheim who is being discussed in another current thread on this forum. I've never had any problems when buying records from him. Was very lucky to win this 45 off him on eBay as it's the only vinyl copy of this record I've ever seen, all others have been styrene.
Keithw Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 thanks for a pleasurable 10 minutes x would you like to come and live with me? tell me more about the Christian PLique one because I REALLY liked that.hey kirst,if you get one first, sell it to me if i get one first.............i,ll keep it

Cunnie Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 ...a truly wonderful piece of music. Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Agreed Tony, a truly great record but Modern it ain't as it's 36 years old. Surely that makes it a new release for most Modern DJ's?
Jaco Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Top stuff Sebastian, especially the Originals, but the Devotions is a great track. Interesting one by the Swan Silvertones, where did you find that one?
Sebastian Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 Interesting one by the Swan Silvertones, where did you find that one? It's an absolute dynamite tune to play really loud at a club, I did it this past friday and 400 people went nuts! I'm a sucker for that "gospel funk" sound (and soulful, gritty gospel in general) and always keep my eyes and ears open for this stuff, listening to gospel internet radio shows etc. As to where I found the Swan Silvertones 45... think I bought it from Craig Moerer for $10 or $12, listed for the "other" side.
Codfromderby Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 hot foxy woman, most excellent track really floated my boat, its prompts me to ask what else is on that family of labels,
Sean Hampsey Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I'm Someone Who Cares - originals - soul 14385 refosoul This is the benchmark. Incredible lyrics...... Tremendous lead vocal and harmonies.. just amongst the very best that Soul Music has to offer. A Thorne Monster 15+ years ago and a very occasional spin down at the Mighty Soul Essence. A Top Choon of the highest order (infact the whole album that spawned it aint too shabby either) Sean Hampsey
Djr Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 That Swan Silvertones 45 is one of my favorite purchases from last year.
Sebastian Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 (edited) hot foxy woman, most excellent track really floated my boat, its prompts me to ask what else is on that family of labels, There's lots of great stuff on those labels! There are some 125+ releases on Charay alone! The Pic & Bill 45s (15 or so of them) are all good soul and worth to track down, there are some nice Cresa Watson releases, there are some fine Willie Hobbs 45s on Soft. Plenty of good garage rock releases as well. Le Cam is probably most famous for being the original label for two gigantic pop hits, Bruce Channel's "Hey! Baby" and J. Frank Wilson's lovely "Last Kiss". Major Bill recorded and released anything he could make money off it seems, and the discographies for these labels are completely messed up, Major often re-used the same catalogue number to issue "new" 45s by the same artist but with a different flipside. There are for example 6 different Pic & Bill 45s released as Charay 60!!! The Major Bill Smith related labels probably warrants a thread of their own. But in the meantime, here's an incomplete Charay discography: https://www.capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/Charaylisting.html Edited February 6, 2007 by Sebastian
