JOEY D Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 BEWARE OF THE EVIL PAYPAL A buyer in Italy won a 45 from me (SAMMY ACUNA on the SLY label) on Ebay for $362.00. He paid using Paypal. I've always been told that the Italian postal service sucks, so I paid $19 extra (out of my pocket $25 total) to send it by GLOBAL EXPRESS mail so I would have a tracking number and a signiture confirmation and that Paypal could track it on line in case of a problem. I sent the 45 on 01/04/07 and the buyer left me positive feedback on the 11th saying he loved the 45 and that it was even better than I described it. I then left him positive feedback. Today I recieved a email from PAYPAL saying that they reversed the payment. I called them and they said that there was some sort of fraud on the buyers end. But they wouldn't tell me what it was. They said that since he had a unconfirmed address that I was screwed. Almost all my 45's go overseas and most of them have unconfirmed addresses. I told them that he left me positive feedback and they said that it doesn't prove that the feedback was left by the real buyer!!! WHAT!!!! So be warned...Don't ever send a package to a unconfirmed buyer even if you send it with on line tracking and signiture confirmation. Paypal always told me as long as I having a tracking number and a signiture I was protected. THEY FUCKIN' LIED!!! Does anyone know this Ebay buyer in Italy? soulrecordscollector His name is DIEGO PADOVESE. They say that there was some sort of fraud on his end.
Guest Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I'm sick of paypal too - there is no seller protection! I got stung for a record that apparantly never arrived - the buyer of that has joined soul-source now. Again full tracking etc, but paypal paid out. At the same time I got stung for a pair of Prada boots that I sold. The buyer in Canada got them, wore them, wrecked them, and then raised a paypal claim saying that they were'nt as described. Paypal have gone in there favour even though they have a history of making paypal claims. F**ked off is an understatement. It makes me want to stop accepting paypal as you cannot tell who has a confirmed address until the buyer has paid. Also with the way ebay works, you cannot see who has a bad history until they have won the item. What do you do if your winner has bad history and an unconfirmed address? If you renege on every offer like that you'll have negative feedback galore and I'm sure ebay will start removing your listings just for fun. grrrrrr

I hope it's just a misunderstanding between Diego and Paypal. If not someone's life on this forum will become a living nightmare!!! Edited February 4, 2007 by JOEY D

I have received your records and I'm absolutely satisfied with it. I've ABSOLUTELY not asked for any kind of refund to Paypal, in fact I was in french guyana for work and I've came back home today.Paypal is doing everytihng by their side, and have not contacted me. I thikn thi is the story : I sold some things on ebay, got payed and I used the money to buy some records including yours . I spent more than what I had on my account and now I 've a negative balance..They frozen my account, and asked me for some infos on me..are they now cancelling all my transactions to have back money on my account?? Can they do that?? I don't know what to do, it's the first time it does happen to me. Today is sunday and I can't contact them, I'll try to sort this situation my tomorrow- Be sure you won't have any damage from this story, I'll pay you again or I'll send you back the records I bought. Don't worry, I'm a serious man, and I never made any thing bad... Diego - Let's hope he takes care of this matter, 'cause it sounds like other guys are in the same boat as me.
Guest Lady Maverick Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 (edited) All, We all have to be careful that it isn't a fraud PayPal site too. There are many lurking about in cyberspace. Where I work, we receive email alerts to make us aware of this. I have sold on eBay and the thing that upsetted me was not only the "protection" but the listing fees! I was reimbursed for some (relisted items that eventually sold), but others I had to still pay, especially for some that "won" my records and never paid. From that experience alone I learned a lesson. As I get the alerts, I can probably post them here...but you have to look at all angles. sometimes it may not be the buyer and it could very well be a bogus site with a scammer on the end. Guest Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 (edited) i've contact watchdog about Pay Pal they certainly ain't PAL'S the telephone assistant who I spoke to said "If Your Stupid Enough to take money for an "unconfirmed address" that your bad luck" eeeerrr excuse me every Pay Pal notice I've ever had says "UNCONFIRMED ADDRESS" There is an Anti Pay Pal site I've left a message on.. Basically they seem to think they can claw money back off people who have taken funds in good faith, from a person who sent it to you, if he/she owes Pay Pal any money.. Pay Pal I would suggest you get it from the customer who owes you, not some other customer who may have dealt with at some time.. Go to WATCHDOG BBC lets haul them up on that wondrerful program.. They are inconsiderate, rude, arrogant and downright dishonest in the way they handle their affairs.. As you can well, I'm not a fan! Edited February 7, 2007 by john manship
KevH Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 what about not using paypal at all and sticking to the old ways ie; CHQ'S or an even more ancient way ....postal orders!!... (A more personal way of completing a transaction?). Not as cool but you don't get f*** ked around as much.

Paypal are a nightmare, I'm just glad that I sell soul records...most of the buyers are great honest people and give you no problems at all. Imagine the hassle you would get from scam artists if you sold something like mobile phones Watchdog did a feature on paypal about 6 months or so ago in which they highlighted the problem of people scamming money back from you if you didn't send it registered to a confirmed address................problem was that after the program aired these kinds of scams doubled overnight as by highlighting the issue they also told every conning git out there how to go about this particular scam! For me, there is no realistic alternative, ebay have made sure paypal is the preffered method of payment of 80% of buyers (and why not they are the same company!). Until someone takes them to court about their unfair practises or comes up with a better way to accept payments then I'm stuck with them, their rubbish service and their ridiculous fees. Adam.

If you haven't got enough money in your paypal account it then automatically takes it from your credit card right, but if there is not enough money on the card, it rejects it and asks you to use a different source of funds - so how come it let Diego pay?

If you haven't got enough money in your paypal account it then automatically takes it from your credit card right, but if there is not enough money on the card, it rejects it and asks you to use a different source of funds - so how come it let Diego pay? Maybe he had an alternative payment like a saving account or something.
Guest Dr Bob Jones Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Without harping on about this, I cannot see how Paypal can reverse a payment after such a long time. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a credit card payment, bank payment pretty much instant on Paypal? Stuff like this stinks of bad working practice on behalf of Paypal who seem to win regardless. Paypal is also owned by Ebay, so surely they could do something to protect their sellers. After all it's in their interest to- isn't it? Regards The Doc

Regards The Doc Yes it is instant...I have my iTunes set up and when I purchase downloads, I am charged right there! However I don't plan to post anymore stuff on eBay until I REALLY read into the fees...I had to pay them over $40 for fees recently...

Guest Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I just had to pay over $400 fees! I'll see your $400 and raise it to £436!!
Mikevague Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I'll see your $400 and raise it to £436!! I'm right behind at $700 and something for last month... Don't even ask how much Spraypal and my auction manager took! Yuck....
Pete S Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I got off lightly because I accidentally overpaid them last time so I had £180 credit! There really has got to be a better way to sell records than this. Those charges. Unbelievable.
Guest Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 the charges are gonna get worse as the final value fee on "music" is going up to 9%, but the listing fee is coming down to 10p for any value
stomper45 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I agree paypal seem a law to themselves. However many buyers prefer paypal, maybe you should only use this method to your own approved customers who have built up a credit history with you. If you stop accepting paypal are you putting out the majority of people you deal with? Like this incident shows, the world is a smaller place now and bad apples are easier exposed. Wouldnt discussions with ebay be better served whilst your still using them and they can see what they might lose. As for fees any auction house will charge these. Yes go back to the old ways, just set sales and cheques
Mark Bicknell Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I've just canceled both my Paypal and Ebay accounts, f*** them not interested anymore, the whole system and it's practices stinks. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
Cheapsiderecords Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Hey Mark It would be interesting to know if you get any feedback from them re. cancelling accounts? How many other people have done this on here? Wonder how many it will take before the notice a trend. Saw an interview with one of the top eBay bods regarding price increases a few weeks ago and basically said number of people listing stuff is going up but amount of items unsold is rising?

So I have posted below on the Watch Dog site and i'm happy to try and stand up to them. Dave I am one of several that have been caught up in a Paypal attempt to reclaim cleared funds by them from our credit cards. This happen after a person in Italy purchased collectable soul records from a number of people in the UK, paid through Paypal (who cleared the funds), but then he could not pay paypal, via his credit card. So now Paypal is trying to reclaim the money from us, over a month after the transaction. You can follow these links to view the issue in more detail on a soul music chat room. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.p...mp;#entry429151 . https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42186

Saw an interview with one of the top eBay bods regarding price increases a few weeks ago and basically said number of people listing stuff is going up but amount of items unsold is rising? Been meaning to do this for ages, i had £1.95 left in my account and guess what the minimum you can draw out is £6.00 so i told them to give that to their boss as he must need the money....lol reckon we should all perhaps get back to buying records the old fashioned way via good old record lists and at venues...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
Mikevague Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I have M-Z Thatgirl75 going up on Mon., Michelle's worked her ass off and its all set, kinda too late to pull back now.... I agree with everyone on here; We've been to hell with Ebay and paypal too (There's a guy in the Uk named Ruud Straatman who eventually I will get, by the way.. ), so after this auction we will try to focus on set sale lists... In the meantime, we are planing to visit Ady's 6-Ts venue at Jack's in March. We will bring some very nice bits, and will be priced very fairly. I'd rather do that than Ebay ANYDAY!!!
Larsc Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I don't know how much better they would act if problems arise, but gemm.com and bidpay are good alternatives. I can't really see how payment between two private sellers can be done safely and cheap-ish without paypal or bidpay. For those who sell on a regular basis (like Pete) it would probably be better to get registered to take payment via credit card (not cheaper but more safe). Both cheques and money orders are so expensive in my country that they're not really an alternative.
Guest Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 ...for those interested: www.matso.tv/ebal.html over 1 million have read it.....I can buy YOUR credit card details registered with Paypal...AND account info from Ebay....via the Russians....for £125.....NOW!!! BE ADVISED! LUV SOOTY X
Chris Anderton Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I am in the same boat as you guys to the tune of £300 with the same guy. In fairness to him he has offered the record back to me but thats not the answer to this problem i was looking for....this is paypals problem not mine, I paid my 3% commision for them to take the risk. Ill back anyone on watchdog...i`d be only to pleased to give my side of events...give B&Q a day off anyway! Chris.
Jumpinjoan Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 The more that I read about this... the more unbelievable I find it! Although I am not really a seller on EBay... apart from a few low end antique items on behalf of the charity I volunteer for... but this is scary stuff! Have you heard anything back from Watchdog yet? I reckon they are bound to take more notice if we all contacted them... what do you think? If everyone on here were to complain... surely it would bring the matter to their attention more then just one or two people mentioning it? Although not classed as a bank... I always assumed Paypal had to adhere to the same rules and regulations that governed the rest of the financial industry. (naive... i know!) Imagine if one of our high street banks tried pulling tricks like this with its customers... there'd be a riot! Post up a link... I am sure many on here would only be happy to let them know just how unscrupulous Paypal are. I know I would... so I'm sure many others on here would too.
