Val (Chunky) Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I went to the 100 club about 10 years or so ago and bought a record, when I got home I was eager to play it and then I thought I'd better sort out the record room. I found I'd got the said record twice allready......is there an emoticon for idiot
Guest Bearsy Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Done it at least 10 times already and ive only been collecting for 2 years lucky enough they were only cheapies and i moved them straight on.
John Al Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 (edited) has anyone else done this and came home with a record you already have but forgotton about. i did but i'm not saying what state i was in I remember a mate whose favourite record was The Millionaires "You've Gotta Love Your Baby" when looking through record boxes he would always confuse this with Barbara McNair "You're Gonna Love My Baby". He spent a whole summer buying boots and re-issues of one or the other and in the end he would come up to me at nighters and ask "what is my favourite record?" and then "have i got it or did I buy the other one?" Of course I was just as blocked as him so it really just made matters worse.......... It stopped after a while but he may have had the last laugh as around that time stacks of Barabara McNairs appeared and none of us bought them thinking they were boots; they weren't. Lionel, you out there mate? Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I do it about once a week, and mostly not knowingly... Worst case in recent years was buying a mintish Dave Newman on Look from John Manship for £150.00, playing it a few times and getting round to filing it, about a month later... ...right next to an absolutely spotless, probably played no more than once or twice, copy of Dave Newman on Look.... ...Soppy old Sod, Rouncey....
Djmelismo Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 It happened to me a number of times that by mistake I bought records that I already had. To avoid this I made a list of all my records, however, it has not been updated during the last few years, so now I am taking risks again. With really expensive items, I double check. When finances are low I´m extra careful. When I buy over the Internet I take time to check. When at a record fair or in a shop, you sometimes rush into things. Find it hard to memorize the titles of records. But for LPs, I find it quite easy to remember (visualize) what the LP looks like, the cover art (only problem when there are different versions/issues of same album with alternative covers). /Melismo

I can still remember some, when or where I bought, or saw a record. However, as time marches on, especially when trawling the net and an Auction is about to finish. I have been close to buying something that I already have in the collection. I do buy different variations of a record. DEMO Stock Copy etc, and have in the past bought spares from Soul Bowl to swap, but that was a conscious thing. Now I'm 50+, well ...... the memory ain't what it used to be. With the amount of scans you post up, are there any soul records you don't have twice?

Hi I know what you mean, I was going for the lot in my Youth, Spent almost all my wages. That's the thing with collecting, got married, had kids, slowed the collecting, missed some really big tunes, wouldn't change a thing. Edited February 3, 2007 by 45cellar
Guest Paul Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I do it about once a week, and mostly not knowingly... You're a brave man, Tony. It must have taken great courage for you to admit to being so foolish. And I can imagine how deeply embarrassed you must feel. Thankfully, I am pleased to say that I myself have never made such a stupid mistake. Best wishes, Paul Mooney P.S. I have a few duplicates and triplicates for sale if anyone is interested.
