Popular Post Andyg Posted July 13, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 13, 2021 Allanton Miners Welfare not a name that stands out to many, but to those of us on the Northern Soul scene it's a very Important name. It's the name of a social club in the middle of nowhere, A little town in Scotland that held the legendary Shotts Allnighters. Although I never personally got there for one reason or another mainly being a football fan following my team around the country on a Saturday, I am friends with many who did, DJ's & Punters alike no one has a bad word for the place except for the heaters & it being a dive but musicaly second to none. I call it important because at the time the scene was dieing and these guys kept it going for me and others to come back to. Thanks to Mr Ruff Cut himself Jim O' Hara & the many DJ's North & South of the border that made this nighter what it was. The Tempest Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Superb as usual Andy ! As a regular there , the music quality was second to none , with a big in demand play , being followed up by £5.00 cheapie causing a stampede to the record bar ! 3
Geeselad Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 I was looking for the voicemasters, that always associated was the venue. Only went the once, national express from London but I do remember it being exceptional. As good as atmosphere, but entirely different, than the 100 at the time. 2
Jim Elliott Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 The music and the atmosphere was fantastic, Loved it. 2
Soulfool Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 People often said to asked me why I never went to Wigan Casino? Well, I wasn't really into soul that much but I don't regret not going but I do regret not getting to this venue, again I wasn't that much into soul at the time but when I read back, listen to old playlists and watch old footage this place would have been right up my street. 1
Solidsoul Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 (edited) I went to the regular monthly allnighters, because the records were great. All the new discoveries and lots of quality lesser know records were played. The DJ selection was second to none. Lots of people used to travel up, like me, from England for the allnighters. Great times in the late 80's early 90's. Ivan. Edited July 18, 2021 by D9 Ktf 1
