Mickey Finn Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Apologies if I've missed a thread on this, but if not there's an interesting obituary of Muscle Shoals drummer Roger Hawkins here: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/jun/20/roger-hawkins-obituary 2
Johndelve Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 My favourite drummer and the greatest soul music drummer ever, IMO...thanks for posting this, I hadn't heard. RIP.
Shinehead Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 R.I.P. Roger a musician who has played on loads tracks that are regarded as classics and all embellished by his playing .
Rick Cooper Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 From hearing James Barnett's Keep On Talking many years ago it's always been one of my favourite records. Back then information on the musicians was not well documented (no internet) but the drummer really makes a huge impact right from the drum intro. The various Kent CDs of Fame recordings don't have much info about the session but I suppose Roger Hawkins must be on this as it was before he left Fame. Can anyone ( @Johndelve or @Ady Croasdell) confirm this. The drum break around two minutes in really lifts the whole track. 1 1
Ady Croasdell Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Sorry, I only touched the surface; Dean or Tony May know 1
Soulman58 Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 That is one impressive legacy of music he has had a part in. RIP

Johndelve Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 Yes, that is Roger on drums but not, I would say, a typical example of how he normally sounded. This, on the other hand, definitely is: , 1
