Guest Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 (edited) "Can't No One Man" is a belter...love the way it builds and seems to take it up a notch, a good dancer, for me ....now, can anybody answer this for me, as I've often wondered...... Which was issued first? and did the Soul Gents become the Invincibles and go on to cut sides for Loma/WB,or...did the Invincibles become the Soul Gents because another group (the Loma/WB outfit) was using the name?....."Wonders of Love" both sound identical so I'm assuming both groups are the same personnel....anybody?...Cheers Derek. The Ciray release I think. Got the Invincibles down here as '67 and Soul Gents as '69. Not necessarily right mind.

Chalky, I always thought Fros Ray was the first label but a little investigation reveals Ciray was first in 1967. The Soul Gents on Fros Ray was a remake with a TOTALLY DIFFERENT take and it's LONGER by 18 seconds suggesting that it was recorded later. There is also no credit to MilesGrayson on the Fros-Ray version suggesting he was not the man behind the controls on the Fros-Ray release. The Fros Ray 45 by appearence looks older but is in fact younger. I prefer the Fros Ray version, there are more instrumental breaks and more vocal harmony going on. So you seem to be right the Invincables was the first release. Check out the two version there is a huge difference (only been able to check the flesh coloured Fros-Ray against the Ciray. You never know the bright pink label Fros Ray maybe different again..but I doubt it. I'll have to dig a copy out and compare. Without this thread would anyone have ever noticed the two recordings were different? I most probably wouldn't have. Edited February 3, 2007 by john manship
Guest Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 That's interesting ...always thought the cuts were the same...never compared them back to back....this begs the question then.....are they the same guys?...cheers John. Derek.

Never realised they were two different takes till I read this. I no longer have copies of either now but I'm sure I have both on tape so I'll have a dig when I get home after the weekend.
