Kickstarter funding - “ Last Night at the Casino “

Thought this may be of interest , as this guys pictures really did do justice to nights back in the day. 

Especially in black and white , when most of us are left with old blurry instamatic faded memories .

Photographs by Francesco Mellina, from the last Northern Soul all-nighter at Wigan Casino in 1981 . The book failed to reach its funding targets a couple of years ago , but is now revived and trying again with a lower target to reach.

I hope it reaches its target this time around .

Ahh thanks mate .. as I don’t do any much social media - FB / Instagram , I’m a bit out of the loop , but prefer it that way to be honest .

Yeah. We all good thanks mate.  Hope you and the family are safe and well.  Lou back in work this week leaving me in peace . Might look for a little part time job,  might not. .  Oh how nice that I have a choice .  

I only use Instagram for posting a few bird pictures and records mate  don't do FB.  Not sure about Blackpool but be good to catch up.

A lot of people overestimate Kickstarter, if you just look at the number of failures on there. I think there's a specific combination of cult appeal and an age demographic that is likely to use Kickstarter before it gains critical mass. That plus the need to massively plug it once it's launched. Best of luck to him though!

It certainly looks more realistic - he's reduced the total by about £4,000; but it still needs twice the backers he had last time though. £20 for a book ain't bad either.

Correct .. and it won’t be long . 

He also has Richard S on board with help and support .. so fingers crossed might get a bit more publicity .. He only took 3 rolls of 36 shots and some I think are unusable .. but there are some classics as lots of us will have already seen. 

40 years anniversary - might prove a nice combination .

Yes , but only about £100 pledged today and only 46 backers so far. I hope it doesn’t fizzle out like it did last time.

A massive thank you for backing this book to everyone who has pledged so far. We're still working on it and trying to make it the definitive photobook of that era. We have all negatives digitally scanned and have removed forty years of dust and  scratches and fingerprints.  Casino DJ, Richard Searling has written his Introduction and we have captions and quotes from people who were there plus one or two bits of memorabilia. But this is book of memories, an emotional response to the photographs taken on that night, a celebration of music, dance and the exuberance of youth.  We are planning and designing the pages to show off these qualities so that the book will make a splendid gift or addition to anyone's bookshelf. Thanks again.

How many registered users are there now on here ? And how many regular contributors ? You would have thought that revival users of this site, combined with any via Facebook would have been able to push this over the line ? 

Are people fed up of the amount of books being released on the subject ? Do they not see this as a worthy project ?

Just be interesting to find out what others think and feel regarding this project.

£4,102 pleaded by 82 backers so far .

With as little as £10 as a pledge and £20 for the book .. and hopefully an exhibition to go along with the book launch on its 40th Anniversary this year.

Thank you all so much. The campaign is definitely heading in the right direction and we still have a couple of weeks to get new backers on board. It's amazing to think, when I see this project all over my social media all the time, that there are still thousands of people to whom this book would mean so much, who still haven't seen anything about it yet.  But it looks as though we will have a small piece in tomorrow's Wigan Post. If you see it, please spread it around with the link. We're still beavering away at this end to make this book the best it can be. It's almost fully designed barring last minute tweaking, some of which we can't do until it is actually fully funded, such as the extended acknowledgements page ...

Mine arrived today . Hopefully if you're waiting for a copy it'll be coming to your door in the next day or two. Nicely put together.

I was surprised to notice a couple of photos with little details like cans of Tuborg scattered around people crashed out or sitting on the floor, presumably that they'd brought in inside their bags. Not sure if that was a last night thing or just something that passed me by in earlier years.
