"Wrapped Up..." has more of a stepper feel to it, while the flip offers some great uptempo dancefloor action. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/arrivalswrappedup.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/arrivalslookingfor.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx JOEY GILMORE: Somebody Done Took My Baby And Gone / Do It To Me One More Time * SAADIA, VG++, reversed labels, 50.- Euro Rare first local Miami release before Phil-L.A.-Of-Soul took over for national distribution. Fantastic production by Frank Williams and Little Beaver, who also played guitar on this. Top side is a mellow midtempo 70's groove with delicious vocals by Joey Gilmore, flip it over for an amazing, more uptempo, dancer. The only downer is, that the labels are reversed. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/joeygilmsomebody.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/joeygilmdoittome.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx GINO PARKS: Same Thing * TAMLA, strong VG near VG+, wol, 50.- Euro Rare Tamla stripes first issue of this uptempo R&B shaker from 1961. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ginoparkssamething.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx MARY "QUEENIE" LYONS: See And Don't See * DE LUXE, visually VG-, but plays rather VG+, 50.- Euro Bargain for someone here! This copy looks a bit abused, but plays like a champ. Excellent femme funky soul with an irresistable groove and some truly soulful singing on top. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marylyonsseeanddont.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx CAL BRANDON: I Kept On Smiling / 24 Hour Love Man * HIT MAN, VG+, 40.- Euro Excellent southern 70's soul double sider, recorded at Muscle Shoals in Alabama. Two super soulful sides back to back! soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/calbrrandonikepton.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/calbrrandon24hour.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx GUITAR SLIM: Well, I Done Got Over It * SPECIALITY, M-, 40.- Euro I'm no expert in R&B records, but I guess this is an original copy of this superb R&B dancer. Deadwax details are "XSP-482-45" and "SP-482-45". soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/guitarslimwellidone.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx LINDA CARR: Sweet Talk / Jackie, Bobby, Sonny, Billy * SAR, promo, M-, 40.- Euro A hard record to find on Sam Cooke's Sar outlet. One side uptempo and one side a really nice ballad. A well known dealer has more the 4 times as much on his copy, so this should be a bargain for someone. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/lindacarrsweettalk.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/lindacarrjackiebobby.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ANDY MACK: Later Than You Think / Do You Wanta Go * CHESS, promo, VG++, some residue from a removed sticker on lbl flipside, 40.- Euro Two gritty 60's dancers on this hard to find Chess demo. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/andymacklaterthenyou.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/andymackdoyou.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (JOE) BATAAN: Woman Don't Want To Love Me / X-Rated Symphony * EPIC, VG++, 35.- Euro Rare issue copy of this amazing slice of latin Funk. Topside is written by Naomi Neville and has been recorded by Ernie K-Doe as well, but Willie Haper's cut has the guts. Flip it over for a mighty fine ballad. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willieharperacertaing.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willieharperidontneed.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx TONY OWENS: Woman, I Got To Leave You * SANSU, M-, 35.- Euro Great New Orleans 70's dancer, way underarretd and something, that would sound great in every Modern room. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tonyowenswomanigotto.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx DEE DEE WARWICK: Funny How We Changed Places * PRIVATE STOCK, VG+, 35.- Euro Superb 70's dancer by Dionna Warwick's little sister and if you want more trivia, they are both nieces of Cissy Houston and cousins of Whitney Houston. Now have a listen to the least succesful singer of the family, who recorded this masterpiece in 1975. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/deedeewarwickfunny.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx HOAGY LANDS: Friends And Lovers Don't Go Together * LAURIE, M-, drill hole in label, 35.- Euro Forgotten 60's dancer, that sounds great today. Quality midtempo groove with great vocals on top. Nice clean with only one tiny surface mark, that does not affect the strong playback. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rolleemcgillyoucan.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx OTIS LEAVILL: When The Music Grooves * BLUE ROCK, Vinyl: M- / Sleeve: VG+, drill hole through label and sleeve, 30.- Euro Great midsixties Chicago dancer complete with it's original art sleeve. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/otisleavillwhenthe.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx CAROLYN CARTER: I'm Thru * JAMIE, M-, 30.- Euro Big drama 60's blue eyed soul dancer. A bit to poppy for some, but no doubt a charming record and this copy is as clean as it gets and comes with it's original distribution sleeve. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/carolyncarterimth.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx JIMMY "SOUL" CLARK: Nothing Like A Mother / All Your Lovin' * TEEK, VG++, 30.- Euro Early Detroit Soul (from 1963 I think) by a legend of the motor city sopul scene. Top side provides a flawless dancer, that would give the Temptations a run for their money, while the flip is slower and might appeal to the ever growing collector's scene of sweet soul record. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/precisionswhygirl.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/precisionswhatiwant.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx SAM "IRONING BOARD" MOORE: I Laugh / This Is A New Day * SANSU, M-, 30.- Euro Keyboarder and singer 'Ironing Board Sam' was a travelling musician, who got his nickname from a gig, where no keyboard rack was available and he used an ironing board for replacement. In the mid seventies he stranded in New Orleans and recorded for Allen Toussaint some remarkable 45s. This offering has two great super soulful 70's soul sides. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sammooreilaugh.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sammoorethisisa.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx FAZE-O: Riding High * SHE, VG+, 25.- Euro Great mellow groover with some involvement by the Ohio Players, short hiss at the beginning plays great afterwards. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/fazeoridinghigh.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx DIAMOND JOE: The ABC Song / Look Way Back * DEESU, promo, M-, 30.- Euro Excellent, hard hitting Nola funky soul produced by Allen Touissant and Marshall Sehorn. Diamond Joe recorded some fabulous 60's side for Sansu records and is surely one of the most underrated vocalists from the the Big Easy. Flip it over and you see what I mean; facemelting deep soul by Joseph Maryland aka "Diamond Joe". A truly gifted singer; a rough edged, fast moving soul. He was possessed of a gruff baritone that could move from a growl to the most subtle whisper within a few minutes of music. He died homeless in 2010 in his hometwon New Orleans and only recorded seven 45s and every single one is as good as this here. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/diamondjoetheabc.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/diamondjoelookway.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ERNIE SHELBY: Punish Me / Bend Over Backwards * POLYDOR, M-, mild storage warp, 30.- Euro Polydor's A&R man for soulmusic definitely had good taste, some great records came out on this major label. Most of them didn't sell at all and are highly collectable these days. Especially the issues, that in many cases have the better track on it then the mono/stereo promos. Here we have an overlooked Muscle Shoals production co-written by Phillip Mitchell (flipside is co-written by George Soule, who also played drums on both sides) and produced by Clayton Ivey and Terry Woodford. Two stunning southern soul sides by a guy, who only released six 45s in his career soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ernieshelbypunishme.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ernieshelbybendover.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx EDDIE HOLLAND: Just A Few More Days * MOTOWN, VG++, drill hole in lbl, 30.- Euro The flip of "Darling I Hum Our Song" is actually a really good dancer and featured here as the top side. When he entered the studio he lit up a candle turned the light down and hung up a picture of his idol Nat "King" Cole on the wall, then he started to sing like an angel. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/aaronnevilleallthese.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/aaronnevilleshesonmymind.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx RICKY LANCE: Lay The Cash On The Line * CITY LIGHTS, VG+, label damage, 25.- Euro L.A. pimp style mellow soul by a guy, who recorded a handful of obscure 45s and a rare LP, that all got a kind of blaxploitation-charme. I love this one even more then "Super Strong" his top rarity on Bren. Check the soundbyte! soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rickylancelaythecash.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx MARVIN SMITH: Hold On / Fading Memories * BRUNSWICK, promo, M-, 25.- Euro Two majestic Chicago sides back to back with the usual crew, Gerald Sims, Carl Davis and Sonny Sanders behind the controls. Perfect, sophisticated soulmusic, that will never sound dated. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marvinsmithholdon.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marvinsmithfading.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx DEBBIE ROLLINS: Meet Me Tonight * ASCOT, promo, M-, slight warp, nap, 20.- Euro Scarce mid-sixties Jerry Ragavoy production; a charming little dancer. This copy is nice and clean with a few small pressing bubbles and a mild warp, both issues don't affect the great playback. Comes complete with it's Ascot-distribution sleeve, which is worth 10 bucks alone. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/debbierollinsmeeetme.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ELDRIDGE HOLMES: Where Is Love / Now That I've Lost You * DECCA, promo, M- Two mindblowing good New Orleans sides back to back. The side featured here is a great dancer with superb soulful vocals, flip it over for an excellent deep ballad. Produced by Marshall Sehorn and Allen Touissant; a dream team at work. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eldridgeholmeswhereis.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eldridgeholmesmowthatI.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx TONY OWENS: (When You're Wrong) You Got To Pay The Price * LISTENING POST, VG++, 20.- Euro Nice clean copy of this indemand New Orleans crossover dancer from 1973. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tonyyowenspaythe.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx J.J. BARNES: Baby Please Come Back Home / Chains Of Love * GROOVESVILLE, strong VG+, 20.- Euro, on hold Essential Detroit double header with a midtempo dancer and a gritty uptempo flip. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jjbarnessbabyplease.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jjbarneschhainsoflove.mp3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx BOBBY MOORE & THE FORMOSTS: Girl You Do Something To Me / It Was A Lie * RED BIRD, M-.
