where's that viewpoint coming from, own personal experience?

which sounds listed above have you heard via 'modern soul' rooms?

For sure at the Cleethorpes weekenders when I've wandered into the modern room, a fair proportion is unknown to me.

a good point

sack second rooms could be a good topic?

fancy giving it a go

Mike. Why don't you have a poll regarding the 2nd room.  There's not been a poll for a while. That could then incorporate a thread regarding the rooms.

Should be one music, in one room under one roof - events with more than one room that aren't weekenders annoy the shite out of me - half empty rooms, DJ clashes and same the type of music all night (this may just be me though)

Not just you, I feel like that even when it comes to weekenders, but that may well be just me:)

Yes I know you do but they are the more niche kinda venue I mention.  I have always tried to play and always support new releases, particularly those I thing will suit a northern style event.  But I do more “other” rooms than anything and can get away with a bit more.

These kinda releases are still frowned upon, mainly by the cheque book DJs.

As you know Chalky young musicians in usa are doing their own thing again with Soul.

Small labels, releasing small runs of 45s. Just like the 60s.

Funky or sweet, there is a great scene in the usa.

Soul music seems to be evolving, with great labels, musicians and singers

That's a fab thing.

It also seems to be young and energetic.

I hope I can catch a few acts like Benjamin and the dream dancers, Victor Gabriel,
Jason Joshua, or James Hunter of course over here this year.

This post has gone quiet for a few weeks so here's a list of neo northern/crossover tunes released in the last year (most this year) to jump start it again.

If there are some you've not heard yet then there's a Spotify playlist here:

https://soulstrutter.blogspot.com/2021/05/neo-northern-soul-crossover-playlist.html

I'm sure there are at least a few new to many as they have only just been released (e.g. Maxine Davis, Wesley Bright, Maria Sanchez, Jeb Loy Nichols, The Love Station)

01 - Maxine Davis - From Me To You
02 - Michelle David - Yes I Am
03 - Wesley Bright - Look At Me
04 - Emma Noble - Welcome To My World
05 - The Regime - Never Gonna Stop
06 - Maria Sanchez - Dynamite
07 - Jeb Loy Nichols - Can't Cheat The Dance
08 - Maxine Davis - No Surprise
09 - The Love Station - Nobody To Love
10 - Carmy Love - Thinkin' About You
11 - Abi Farrell - I Will See You Through
12 - The Bamboos - The Thing About You
13 - Gabriels - Love And Hate In A Different Time
14 - Dean Parrish - It's Time - Purple Mountain Majesty
15 - Nikki Gee, Sven Lindvall & Daniel Fridell - I'll Be Gone
16 - Michelle David - Good Good Good
17 - Tristan - Perfect Girl
18 - DeRobert & The Half-Truths - 100 Yard Dash

Some great release in that list.

Some nice sounds, for me The Regime is the standout track. could see it being played out in many different types of venue.

Great list. I always love what Jeb Loy does.

No love for any of the Fingier singles?

The first and the latest were more popular than most of these sales wise (not that that makes them better).
