Dave Kilworth, RIP.

Sorry to pass on sad news that Dave, probably better known on here as Dave the Drug, tragically lost his life in a fire at his house in Bilston last week.

An engaging raconteur and keen record collector, his knowledge of soul music, and love of rare vinyl, was impressive and based on an engagement with the scene from the late 60s to the date of his demise. A native of east London, he never lost his accent nor his love of West Ham ,despite years spent in the Wolverhampton area. He was particularly keen on UK labels and used to post images of iconic British items from his collection on this site and elsewhere. The motif that adorned his Linkedin page was an orange CBS issue of Kenny Bernard's, Pity My Feet, for example.

Dave had been in poor health for some time, but the news of his death, and the circumstances, understandably came as a shock to all who knew him. Condolences to his family and many friends.

Hi Born on a train in London lived in Letchworth only 1 mile from Mick Smith, had a troubled childhood, in 1968 after attending West Hams 1st Home Match, I got a #1 haircut like most of the north bank, & started a kick shit youth sub culture , after receiving interruptions to my lifestyle spending time in HMDC I started to play soul & reggae in pubs, attended all-nighter's through out the 7ts 8ts 9ts 00ts to the present time, in the 7ts I worked with stage lighting & sound crews as a roadie for KOOL & the Gang Marvin Gaye & many more. had long relationship with Stimulants still prescribed 15 dex daily,  collect Rare Soul & Reggae. have had a bad boy reputation which I seldom use these days, I'm a qualified Counsellor specialising in Addiction spent 25 years working for NHS & in the voluntary service,  There are many life chapters that make good reading, working on new project working title "who you screwing John", I'm a Labour Party Member. Met Dave one Christmas a few years back. At first he wasn't going to let me in his gaff 'cos he thought I was a bailiff. He told me all about the time he lived near me - at a certain Institution in the village of Borstal nr Rochester. A very engaging character and I enjoyed his banter over the years.

Such a great lad, a proper bloke.  I can't help but think he'd be devastated to think his records went up in flames
He idolised Mick Smith, he'd always sing his praises as a record hunter, seller, collector and DJ (of course he wasn't wrong)
He found a record the one time and decided that I literally had to buy it and that no one else should own it ( I still have it btw)

My father recently passed away 01/02/2021 he had a soul source profile under the name 'Dthedrug' real name David or Dave Kilworth

My father lived for his music and the northern soul scene he loved everything about it the people, music, clothing, culture and of course record collecting.
