Probably 2,200 tops.

I can remember it having over a 100,000 members. Glad they didnt all try to go the same night. Steve

Jim G Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 This will always receive a subjective answer with figures ranging between 2,000 and 3,000. Truth is, 1st anniversary you couldn't move let alone dance and second was similar. I went from '73 and, 74/5 were manic getting in every weekend, so somewhere in the 2-3,000 is about as close as we will get I suppose. But knowing these forums, somewhere will quote a number!
Jules Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 not sure of the capacity but I do remember buying one of the last tickets for the 3rd aniversary and I`d swear the ticket number was 299- something , just remember discussing it thinking I was lucky to get one of the last 5 tickets for sale. there must have been 3000 there on the 3rd an. remember not being able to find a space to sit on the floor anywhere! good days indeed.
Rob Wigley Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 As a regular at The casino over the years the early years (and more commercial) always seemed to be rammed solid. But the busiest night I can recall was the 2nd oldies anniversary (Feb 77 I think) , just totally wall to wall even when they opened Ms up it stayed full everywhere !! Rob

Rob I think that is the only night i can remember when you couldnt move in Ms corridor or up on Ms balcony. I remember not being able to get on the balcony dance floor it was that packed..........great times!!!

Guest Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Someone said to me at the NSC on Saturday that toward the end, the last year or so, the numbers were well down. Whether that was just to make me feel better because I was only old enough to go when it shut I'm not sure
Steve G Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Someone said to me at the NSC on Saturday that toward the end, the last year or so, the numbers were well down. Whether that was just to make me feel better because I was only old enough to go when it shut I'm not sure Yeah it really did struggle in the last year or two, down below 500 on some nights, and by about 5 am the place looked quite empty. It was really sad really, but what you were told was right.

Dave Thorley Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 You could get alot of people in that club, main room, Mr M's. The lobby just before M's could hold 60-70 on it's own. I can remember one nite there so many turned up that they stopped people coming in the main venue and opened the Beachcomer all niter. Most of the main room DJ's went down and did a set there as well. Rammed as it was for anyone of the last nights, could well have been 2500-3000 in

Guest Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I feel better that I didn't miss anything now then - in it's heyday I would have only been around 10

Guest Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 (edited) Certainly some top tunes... I think for me, the worst bit about missing out on visiting the Casino, was not being able to dance on that fantastic floor! Still, I can only wonder what might have been for it surely wont present itself as an option now will it Edited January 30, 2007 by ♫ Soulgirl ♫

The others ? I will leave you to decide for yourselves what they were / are . Malc Edited January 30, 2007 by Malc Burton

Malc The records played in Richards last spot were either big records at the time or like Eddie Holman, records that had been massive for a couple of years. If I remember correctly "Rideout" wasn't supposed to be his final record but the next dj wasn't ready and he had to quickly stick another disc on the decks. A few weeks later of course The Casino was having yet another of it's famous "definate last nighter" and Richard was dj'ing at Wigan Tiffs nighter, crazy situation. This anorak remembers it well, I posted the last ever playlist on another forum many years ago..... Darran Edited January 30, 2007 by Awake 502
Scallybob Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Russ once told me that the highest number who paid on one night was 2600. It wasn't licenced for that many but several nights-Betty Wright, Jackie Wilson, some anniversaries and some of the last few were rammed. There were always loads who didn't pay to get in-DJ's and all their mates, people who knew Russ/Richard/anyone else and not forgetting those who got in free for sweeping up after the early sessions or simply hid inside until the lights went down again. The Council tried to close the Casino from the day it opened-if they'd had today's fire regulations it would have been simple.

Malc Best live artist I've ever seen, saw her on the wednesday prior to seeing her again on the saturday night in the Casino. The Casino was rammed full with loads of people not being able to get in as the place was full. I just about got in draging the future wife with me just before they shut the door on the mass of people left outside, including some of my mates.
