:P what sort of stuff does he play

======

hi andy

ultimately im a forgotten oldies man,,,a modern day Dave Evison...

i do tend to get booked for oldies dos where usually get inundated with oldies requests so its difficult at times to play alternative stuff but if its in the box i play it if i get asked,im not complaining as it feels good to see people dancing to your tunes..

when i do get the chance to play what i like its a mixture of uptempo 60's and 70's oldies..if u see my posts in 'look in your box' its usually something ive read that was played in the 70's and ill buy it and if i thinks it good ill rave about it ill probably be playing it ,,until the next lot of 45s comes in!!

i also play things that others would nt even dream of or believe shouldnt be played especially the old wigan stuff like 'wind - grooving with mr bloe' and 'salt and pepper'

things ive reactivated in my own little way inlude:-

little beaver - listen to my heartbeat

henry boatwright - i can take or leave your loving -

lost family - blow my mind - innovation

peggy scott - you got it all -

claude garbo - fox in a mini skirt -

ric martin - i travelled the road - mgm

little rose little - youve got the love- roulette

one thing i am proud of is i never play the same spot over and over cuz basically i never know what im gonna play and just go with the flow..

im not everyones cup of tea but certainly individual lol

regards

Martin Thomson - Brilliant individual collection, passionate, always plays the right tempo, floorfillers with lots of imagination.

Tony Smith - I've heard Tony playing not enough imo over the last 10 years from Mod dos like Mousetrap to the big NS dos in London, has tunes some of the djs that get regular weekly bookings could only dream about as with Martin plays records that fill floors but at the same time making it interesting.

Steve Csordas - Never heard him play a bad spot, always gets the floor buzzing & can tailor his set depending on who he's playing to, totally passionate about the scene & always evolving the music.

Andy Rix - Please someone bring him out of retirement, i've never heard anyone else play a set even similar to Andy, totally original, when he stopped playing the scene lost something big.

Ian Clark - As above, played Detroit rarities that blew me away & that i've never heard since, awesome dj.

Lastly but not least a local Bighton dj via Boston who along with Miles E, Marco S, & Mark E taught me NS in my early days - Paul Sutton - A brilliant dj who can work a dancefloor with consumate ease, a massive knowledge of Soul music & perfect taste. Always one step ahead of the game possibly too clued up for his own good sometimes, if he didn't move forward so quickly peeps would be swooning over stuff he used to play like The Constellations & Johnny Bartell when they were still cheap & not being played by anyone else, lots of the new standards that lazy djs are now playing week in week out Paul was playing when they were still imaginative & not in vogue.

Promoters, book any of the above & you won't be disappointed imo.

Simon :P

I'll echo Pete Lyster and Jason Bessant. Particularly fanciful of Mace - top man! Always had a soft spot for Steve Csordas too - excellent playlist every time. Ian from Taunton always puts together a fantastic set on the few occasions I've heard him play and everyone raves about him :P

i think every decent dj will have their day..sooner or later

we are seeing alot of stalwarts leave or not do as many as they did which in turn is giving alot of new blood their chance...

Brett Franklin & Rich Buckley get my votes.

I've heard these play for a good while and get it spot on for me. Yes they're my mates, but they play stuff I like!

lots of my personal faves have already been mentioned (tony Smith, Tef, Ian Clark....), so I'll just add a couple more to the list

Gaz Simon and Kev Cane - been collecting for an eternity and have accumulated some lovely tunes

Baz Atkinson - though not always to my taste (too fast and stompery for me) knows how to fill the floor and has also got some cracking tunes

and all three are on my "favourite people" list

Some nice enough tunes but it's a fairly similar looking playlist to a lot you see listed up on here & in my oppinion we need more djs with a bit of imagination rather than even more djs playing the same old stuff.

Just a snippet of the stuff he has,

Im sure he has the imagination/ability to dig deep and produce some fine stuff rarely heard at soul nights.....

Not wishing to start or get into the....... what you need to play/what you want to play debate as a dj

A few from Europe that should get booked over here more

Lars Bulnheim (Great 60's through to modern, went down a storm @Villa)

Martin Walgenbach (Great Germany crossover and 60's DJ)

Stephan Kubernus (Nice across the board DJ)

Lionel Girard (Man behind the Paris allniters)

Mark Forrest (But there again he gets too much work already)

Thorsten Wegner (Awesome collection)

Christian B (Oslo's wonder boy)

Hitsville Chalky

One of the better younger D'js out there , as a lot of people from the Wolverhampton , Dudley area will agree with me.

Has an excellent collection and keeps the crowd well entertained.Plays some great lesser heard Detroit stuff. Has a strong following in Bury!
