Whatever happened to the really great alldayers of the 70s and 80s?

Ones that were busy from lunchtime?

My first ever soul do was an alldayer in Stroud. it was magic beyond belief.

Now we are getting to or have even passed the age our parents were when we first started staying up all night, dancing. Wouldnt reason suggest that more all dayers would be popular? Instead there seems to be less, and when they are on, are virtually deserted until 7 or 8pm anyway.

Bring back quality alldayers I say.

i love alldayer's particularly the one's were i can sit outside in the sunshine with a pint in my hand listening to some quality music , cant get much better than that

and I'm the complete opposite....

I'm an allnight girl. Quite liked going to a dayer after a nighter, but not as a "stand-alone" event. Not a hope in hell of me going to an alldayer these days Or a weekender, or many places at all in fact

and now I'm going to cry and look back nostalgically at my mis-spent youth

Simon Bridgers all dayers in Brighton @ the Volks bar were the business....well maybe not in December but in the summer months, superb

Sitting outside in the sunshine,beer in hand looking out to sea, lots of London/South Coast friends, great music pumping out. Sign of old age I know cause we should be throwing ourselves around the dance floor !

Different kettle of fish back in the 70s of course, Reading Top Rank Northern versus the funkateers been covered before of course

Always preferred all nighters, didn't seem right somehow dancing at midday/afternoon & yet I loved the sun pouring through the windows at Yate early morning even though I know most didn't .. I like to be different

is it just my memory, or did dayers die a death in the 80s and just never recover? we used to run the cov all dayers in the mid 80s (i say we, simon bonser did them really) and sometimes we'd get about eight people in. and we played good music too, cliff steele was on regularly, we had guy and i think kitch, sure we had butch a few times.

personally, i haven't even got the stamina for a soul night now, but the occasional dayer would be nice.

if i ever get rich, i'm going to open a soul-themed bar* cos it's great music to drink and talk to as well

*anyone who has referred to me as human vermin is already barred

I think the reason why alldayers (aldayers?) did so well in the past was that we were all able to go to a niter on the Saturday then to a dayer on the sunday without blinking an eyelid. In a lot of cases a niter on the friday, saturday and then a dayer on the sunday

Nowadays it takes me all my effort to drive home after a niter, let alone go to a dayer as well. I expect it's the same for most.

Brum Locarno on sundays were the best dayers i remember.

Love all dayers, but then I would we had one here in Cleethorpes every fortnight for 6 years so we were spoilt, Notts pallis ones were good too, thnk I preefer dayers to nighters now, just dont seem to hurt as much as nighters. god ime gonna miss the Gardens :angry:

we're thinking of holding an alldayer in the summer and so far the feed back we've received has been good, i know their not every ones cup of tea, me and tracie love them

I went to a cracking alldayer last year.... No More Doggin'...and I shall be back again this year.

Nige Shaws alldayer last year was also a cracker

The modern all dayers at Horsell in the early 90s were some of the best 'nights out' that I've ever had. Would love it if someone would do the odd one here and there - modern, northern or a mix of both - as I think it'd be a gas to go out and hear some decent tunes during a Sunday afternoon again, and still get back home in time to watch '24'...

I Remember That Well It Was An Escort Van ,Remember The dayers Too . There Were A Few At The Mercia Sporting Club Too .I Was Supposed To Dj At One But Was Far Too drunk , They Tim ,Niall Never Asked Me Again.

Anyone Remember The Unicorn Club In Leyton Buzzard ? They Were Usually After The Notts Palais,Great DJ Line Ups , Guy,Keb ,Mark Bicknell etc.........

Remember queuing to get in at mid-day, straight from Wigan after a pit stop at Birch services...brilliant all dayers late 70's

they never really took off all that well, got 300 in on a good night but that was a big venue

we were at the sports centre at first in the big room, then moved to the little one, then out to the school at tile hill

the mercia sporting club dayers are the ones i'm on about. we did one once where from memory simon had rashly used the words 'rare groove' on the flyer - why i have no idea, if he's reading he'll maybe explain - so a load of trendy twats with silly clothes turned up. i think they demanded their money back

we did have a good policy - we had butch, guy, kitch, ion, adey croasdell, carl fortnum when he was a mere nipper, pat brady (i think?), danny everard who i always liked, val palmer, a few other good people too. but cov's not a soul town as you know so we were always around the 150-250 mark.

did go to the navigation yep, it's offices now isn't it by that new shopping development. went with simon and ches/moggy a few others who you might or might not know. they were good nights, great laugh. was the mod guy a southerner called howard? big into his ska? used to dj at the hope and anchor by cov poly in the late 80s?

Weirdest alldayer I ever went to was at Fawlty Towers in Woborn Green. Was the location for the outside shots of that Torquay Hotel,BAZIL surreal.

Loved a dayer after an allniter, just greedy I quess.

Does anyone else think that much of the demise of the all dayer in the late 80s/90s was down to age. As many of us are older than "Gods dog" we were busy with families during this time and it wasn't quite as easy to get out during the day as you had to do all that domestic stuff and play happy families at weekends.

Now I have no family commitments I personally prefer all dayers as it takes me till about Tuesday to recover from an all nighter these days

I have been to one all dayer and only cause i got time off work. i wouldn't say there should be more.

However i am going to my first all nighter soon as i only ever been to obviously 7.30 - 1.00 finish not ones that go from 8.00 - 8.00am but i am going to one soon boy this is gonna be fun. will get time off work and end up sleeping before hand

Birmingham Locarno & Top of The World Alldayers on alternate Sundays...............great venues to chill out & come down in after a hectic weekend.

The limited all-dayers I've been to I've absolutely loved! Fresh as it's during the day, and still able to sleep come the night. The venue has to be right though, you know, still dark inside. Apart from weekenders I can honestly say the last one I did was about 7 years ago!

Thankyou Dave, after a bit of a lay off i've got one coming up at the Volks on Sunday May 27th (Bank holiday).

I hope the magic is still there & people enjoy it as much as the ones we've had in the past.
