Been waiting to do this thread for ages so here it is.

Rotherhams Clifton Hall, IMO the best nighter ever, the characters, the memories, the dj's but most importantly the music.

Gonna kick it off with what was my favorite record then & after all these years still is.

Have fun biggrin.gif

Your'e right Darran but Clifton really broke the record as it did with King Tutt & loads more.

Lots of things played else where, but clifton hall turned em`into biggies.

Most of the modern stuff at the time was first played and tried out at either Snaith or Todmorden all dayers by Richard, Sam, Arthur etc. This was one of my faves from Clifton Hall..... :P

Mainly Sam and Arthur I would say( Aprt from the obvious exceptional tunes.)

Stand at the decks, see the labels or try and guess th cover up real titles, then on the phone to John Anderson who usually said, " I'll send you a few things up"

Those were the days. :D

Many of Sam and Arthurs big records, Richard didn't have at the time and CH exposure came through Poke and that Blades fan from Sheffield.

Always thought it a greeat shame that S and A never got on at CH. (And I can tell you why :shades: )

If I'd known then what I know now I'd have kept that mint stock copy of Jimmy Delphs that RS still had covered as Tony Hestor :D

Mind you, only value wise because I never really liked it !

Mart,

If I knew how to post clips I'd post up a stack of Clifton Hall tunes.

Sorry.

I'm Just Crap with Technology

Can you find the thread anywhere from when we did the reunion night? The one that had the playlists on?

Can they be copied and pasted onto here... so that others who missed it 'might know what all the fuss was about'

Seems to me there's very few people on SS that actually went to Clifton Hall.

It's like it never really happened.

At the time... the biggest nighter on the planet.

Then.

A Car Park.

Sad.

Well I must have gone a few times Sean, although I lost interest a bit towards the end, due to other non soul musical commitments. Awesome all nighter, pitch black with just a few neon lights. A lot of wood panelling and the balcony. Thats all I remember! only joking.

I guess the real big sounds were for me:-

Charles Johnson "Never had a love so good" not an instant success, took a while to break.

Omni "Keys to the city" covered as David Porter?

Wilson Pickett "How will I ever know" Brother Louie Brown c/u what a superb slab of soul music.

Keni Burke "Let somebody love you"

Arthur Adams "you got the floor" this was really pushing the boat out at the time.

Escorts "Sing a happy song"

Cindy Harris "Dance me swing me"

Samona Cooke "Subway"

Leon Bryant "Might body"

Eloise Laws "If I don't watch ouit"

Sammy Gaha "thank you thank you thank you" New York Port Authority

I've got to cut this short as I have to read my son a story. There are alot more to list. The above seem to be mainly Richard's plays. Neil whatshisname of Neil's Page fame is member of this siite he should remember most of the plays if he still got his book!

Hi Martin ......

With reference to one of our conversations last saturday night , regarding a suitable venue for the next Clifton Hall reunion , if a suitable venue is not found in Rotherham to stage such a notable and creditable event , what about a marquee and a portable dance floor on the car park that now occupies the site of CH .......

Actually, thats probably the one !

There's not just 'one' though Steve is there?

The sheer volume of class records broken and played at Clifton Hall was Breathtaking... and the playlist pretty much fed the rest of the Northern 'AND' modern scenes for the entire decade.
