Tomangoes Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Having heard Al Wilson's 'The Snake' at weddings, xmas parties, and loads of cd discos, I wondered how many people in the UK would recognise this tune if played to them? Obviously as soon as a request is made for some NS, the average pop DJ picks this out first. Ill guess at 1m. Ed

Guest soul_hull Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 i would say this is prob the most well known 'northern' track amongst indie kids and middle-aged non-soul dads. i'd say about 42.7673465% of the population
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 fantastic record though and not sure why but 5 or so years ago i asked at my cousins party cause DJ played Do i Love you and it was dad's friend Nigel (who also dj's on the scene) i said can you play the snake and he did but now i wouldn't ask for it as i would rather ask for Sugar Dumpling or Open the Door To Your Heart (Jackie Wilson) but do a mobile DJ (there not gonna have it unless it's mine and dad's disco)

funkyfeet Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 (edited) Massive disco play on the back of the northern scene, so my guess is anybody over the age of 45 who went clubbing in their teens early 20's and that's on top of the older crowd who already knew it. Guest Matt Male Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I was in a weird situation on Saturday night when i went to a 40th birthday party at a club with a disco. The DJ played The Snake, Stop Her on Sight, Out on the Floor and a load of motown. An hour later at 12.00 i was at Junction 11. The contrast couldn't have been wider. From the ridiculous to the sublime...

Dayo Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Like many I'm not a fan of this record, story songs almost never do it for me. I am curious though as to when it first got played? Was this one that the first wave of mods grooved on? Col
