Ebay This Weekend - What's Happening?

I won 29 records on Ebay this weekend - that was 75% of all the records I bid on. 29!!!! Inlcuded a Jimmy Ruffin issue on Miracle for around £40 - basically, what's going on, why are the records so easy to pick up? Is it because the collecting scene is dying? because people still have no money after Christmas? Maybe the quality of items on Ebay is just poor at the moment? Are people charging too much? I dunno, but something peculiar is definitely happening.

I rarely look on ebay nowadys.

its not the place it once was when looking for a bargain, and there are so many boots and pressings listsed, unless I have a spare afternoon, then I just cant be bothered.

And to be fair with the grading isues, postage issues etc. I'd rather pay an extra 10 or 15% and actually hold the record before buying it.

Ebays great for cheapies or unknown stuff, you can usually buy the lower end records stright off, im always using Craig M slightly more expensive than the other sellers on there but its always mint off him, as for bidding for other stuff i just dont bother any more, far to many people with too much money too throw at things IMO

I think it all depends on what you are after. There is definately more leaning towards trophy records and big indemanders. Fewer may be buying the semi forgotten oldie. At the same time you were winning your bids, I was hopelessly outbid on something by a country mile, even though I thought I had priced my bid to knock everyone else out of the way. How wrong I was.

Same is true with other auction sites, you can get a very rare record quite cheaply nowdays, purely because everyone is bidding on the not very rare record in the same auction. It's a crazy world allright.

Agreed. It's also a great place to pick up cheap stuff blind and get a nice surprise when it arrives and you play it.

It response to Pete, i was thinking it's just the fall off after christmas. I'm taking advantage while i can. I've bought 15 items this month off ebay.

I've noticed the stuff i've been selling on ebay this week has dropped a lot in price. I'm not going to put any more good records on until 24th so they close at the end of the month when a lot of people get paid. I'm going to stick to my guns though & not reserve anything, so if you want a Rodd Keith for 99p, or what ever its sat at, nows your chance
