1)  Dee Dee Sharp – What kind of lady – Action 4522 M- £125 SOLD

(Gamble and Huff, what more can I say?  On the creatively colourful UK label)

2)  Lee David – Gypsy woman – Bell 728 DJ M- Xol £40

(Semi-heavy soul from the “Temptations calling my name” man)

3)  Lou Rawls – Dead end street – Capitol 5869 Ex+ £30

(Outstanding, lyrics to die for, bluesy feel, builds and builds before it crashes in on you.  Monologue intro of course)

4) Otis Bush & Crusaders – So much love – Cha-Cha 766 Ex+ £40

(Rarer earlier release on the Cha Cha label, smooth group soul)

5)  Johnny Williams – My baby’s so good – Chess 1976 M- £100

(Northern R&B, not quite traditional raw and bluesy R&B, but just a hint to spice it up.  Horn intro, ivory clinking backing with smooth vocals with occasional mouthwatering “oohs and aahs” from the girl backing.  Overlooked mid-tempo genius)

6)  Roy Wright – Heartbreak (awful day) – Crash 427 M- £200

(Wrights releases on the Chicago Crash and subsidiary labels Mica and Vick demonstrate a turnaround from smooth 50’s vocals to grittier 60s soul, this brassy horn laden dancer hits the right notes, and captivates all the way through.  Fab 45 with cool label design too)

7)  Sam and Bill – Trying to get back to my baby – Decca 32200 M- dh £20

(Superb mid-tempo vocals and what a catchy tune, don’t ignore get it up on youtube)

 Larry Williams & Johnny Watson – Too late / Two for the price of one – Epic 7281 Ex+ £300

(Rare Canadian release of this brilliant, and no pun intended 2 for the price of 1, coupling of 2 monster Okeh tunes)

  

9)  Temptations – I want a love I can see – Gordy 7015 M- £100 SOLD

(So collectable, early label release, Temps just getting their act together on a catchy track bristling with strong lead vocals, bursts of backing harmonies, twinkling ivories and lighthouse-esque horn rasps, classic and brilliant.  Delta number so West coast, but vinyl)

(In your face from one of Motown’s longest established groups)

11)  Little Johnny Blair – Mommas gone – House of Fox 5 Ex £20 (£25)

(Bubbling sticker mark)

12)  Lydia Pense – I’ll forgive you and forget you – Invader 401 M- £100 SOLD

(Old Beverly Ann cover up, superb mid-tempo, reminds me of Danelle Darris on Commerce.  This red stock copy is harder to find than the demo)

13)  Calvin Williams – Lonely you’ll be – Northern Del LA 501 Ex+ £75

(Brilliant vocals from one of Detroit’s finest, probably the best version for me)

14)  Monzas – Hey! I know you – Pacific 1998 Ex £50 ON HOLD

(Very rare first release, on Manny’s for 100, only the later 104 release shows up on Popsike)

15)  Dillard & Johnson – Here we go, loving again – Piedmount 076 Ex £30

(Moses Dillard in Nashville!)

16)  Sonny Til – Tears and misery – RCA 9759 Ex+ £65

Such a catchy dancer from an artist whose been around forever and a day, nice orange stock copy

17)  Holidays – Loves creeping up on me / Never alone – Revilot 205 DJ Ex £40

(Fabulous double sider, not an easy to find DJ copy, writing on label)

18)  Jackie Ross – Hard times – SAR 129 Ex+ £250 SOLD

(Very hard R&B, her first release at 16 years of age, no wonder she had a future, on Sam Cooke’s own label, what a voice)

19)  Entertainers – Love in my heart – Symbol 212 M- £125 SOLD

(Charged up dancer on many playlists)

20)  Ketty Lester – West coast – Tower 166 M- £30 SOLD

(Uptempo dancer from the “love letters” girl, made for the swinging Californian 60s scene)

21)  Ethics – Look at me now – Vent 1001 M- £35 SOLD

(Forget values this must be one of the best Northern dancers to have emerged from Philly, if it was known for 10 copies or less, it would be 4 figures)
